sorry to tell you I do have a "clue".. I know exactly how these things work. Ive seen it all. ...and it stinks
Were you looking in the mirror when you said that? Joel is a wise man. That's why George made him his consigliere.
.....sorry to say, I'm with Jiffy. I do not think it's the government's responsibility to take care of us. I think the role of govenment is to govern. The responsibility to take care of us is ours and ours alone.....strong self reliance is one of the founding principles of this country. The notion of transfer payments and redistribution of income and wealth would never have passed muster with our Founding Fathers.....the growing influence of the welfare state in our society will lead to the tragic demise of this great republic they founded. That may sound insensitive to you, but I find it vastly more insensitive to destroy this great society and deny future generations of my family and yours and others the magnificent opportunities that were afforded to ours and prior generations......but that is where we are headed.
Speaking of Founding Fathers.....below are quotes from Thomas Jefferson. In addition to being the author of the Declaration of Independence, I believe he was also the founder of the Democratic Party. Imagine what he's thinking these days? My God where did we go so wrong?
That's right Aquila and I will hope and pray that those of you that can't see the difference get a nasty personal taste of what is going on.....it would serve you right. The way I see it the millions of us that are either unemployed or underemployed are the victims of poor mismanagement by those high flying Wall Streeters and by the lack of effective governmental guidance in the past eight years. And for sure the automotive regimes haven't done too well either but it is asinine to blame all of my troubles or the Big Three's troubles simply on bad management decisions by Detroit. That is moronic. I see today where Toyota is asking for a 2 billion dollar government bank bailout. The entire auto industry is getting crushed. I know.....let's blame Detroit for Citigroup, AIG and now Toyota....
...call me a moron but just don't understand why it always seems to be somebody else's fault? What is moronic is to blame Detroit's problems on something else when Detroit's precipitous decline into the shitter predated the slowdown by years......blame all you want, but it's just not reality. GM's BEST year in the last 5 was 2006 when they lost ONLY $2 Billion.....in 2007 when money was flowing out the nation's credit taps like water, GM lost $42 Billion.....that equals $115 million each and every day! EACH AND EVERY DAY they lost $115 million. Now exactly what do we blame that on? Whose fault was that? Don't be ridiculous.....
Gipper, The DOW was at 7949 on January 20th....Obama's first day in office. That was six weeks ago today. Obama may prove to be an abject failure and he will be if he doesn't keep Pelosi and her kind at bay but I suspect he is gearing up for a fight with that bunch. On that we'll see. On his chance for success....I sure would like to give him a reasonable amount of time....6 weeks is a ridiculously short window for judgement given the sh*tstorm that he inherited.
You completely miss the point. (as usual) Stop blaming Bush for once in your pathetic life and think. Obama doesn't have to fix things at once. But he does have to give the impression that he has the ability to do so. He's failing miserably. In fact, some actually believe that he wishes to prolong the economic distress because it allows him to continue to blame the previous administration while he undertakes drastic social change. FDR got in front of a microphone, talked to the American people, soothed their fears and gave an air of competence. Obama and his staff continue to tell America that they are in a terrible mess and it's all the opponents fault. While this may, in their minds help them politically, it doesn't instill the confidence that the people need to begin to stop hoarding and not commiting to big purchases. Sure the auto industry and housing are reeling. Just what has the new president said that would make anyone want to buy? The market sees months ahead. They look at Washington and see nothing to give confidence in the coming future. Obama is great at two things, making campaign speeches and making excuses. That's it.
Now that's pathetic.... You really believe that? I think it's pretty funny that Obama get's much of the blame for the mess he inherited......in fact it's incredulous.
This is a quote from the WSJ article. It's saying that they are more interested in politics than economic leadership. Look at their budget proposal. The housing market is in shambles. They propose taking away some of the mortgage interest writeoffs. That has to reduce housing prices further. They claim to be dedicated to reducing our dependence on foreign oil and yet the are postponing any further offshore drilling. (it's obvious that the green part of their agenda overrides everything else.) People are hurting economically and charities will be stressed more than they have been in a long time. So what does the Obama team propose, reducing tax contribution deductions. (now this will probably hurt those damn churches full of Christian fundamentalists but many others will be hurt if charitable contributions decrease. But hey, if we stick it to the rich and the religious who gives a ****.) Anyone seen our Secretary of the Treasury in a while. He has yet to come up with a plan for the banks. Well it's almost tax time and he might be too busy working on his own returns to come up with a plan to stabilize the banks. (think about it, it took Congress about a week to come up with an 800 billion social program stimulus and yet the treasury department with supposed fiscal intelligence is groping in the dark.) I think it's pretty funny that Obama supporters, instead of hoping that he does SOMETHING quickly hope others get shafted too. But that's just the nature of the beast.
One thing....I was never an Obama supporter. I was hoping Billary would get the nod because of the experience factor and also because economically we were in a pretty good way during his terms. Well....didn't work out that way and now we have what we have and I hope it works out and I prefer not see it as hopeless already. Call me an optimist I guess.
Walk a mile in my shoes of the last 8 months Tom. You might understand some of my recent concerns or perhaps negativity if you will.
What experience factor might that be? I don't know that her vision for the direction of the country is meaningfully different than Obama's. She's a much more polarizing personality than is Obama's and do you really think she and Pelosi could do anything productive together? Why am I not surprised that you've thrown Obama under the bus after only 6 weeks????
Motorgator...make the best of it..stop complaining..put on a suit and tie and start banging on some doors. :!: There is work out there..FIND IT.. :!:
