What nobody could've or would've predicted is that Texas Tech would run for almost 400yds tonight vs KU. Pass for 400 sure, but run? 41-17 Red Raiders, at this moment clearly the class of the B12 and the best team money can buy in the B12
If I were a bit younger, I might apply for the job. More seriously, if Penn State can prove he was a failure, maybe no buy out? Is that possible Gip?
PSU had quit on him after the Oregon loss. They have a mega rich billionaire named Terry Pegula that probably said I want him gone and I'll cover the buyout. He donated over 100M for Penn State to build a state of the art Hockey arena. Oh and he owns the Bills. Still a bit of a shock, a guy who was maybe an int vs ND from going to the finals and then 2 awful weeks this year, and he's done. Franklin, like Jimbo Fisher, will never have work again unless he just wants to work.
Matt Rhule to Penn State? I'm sure he likes it in Lincoln, but the ability to get recruits and compete for championships is much bigger in State College. At one time Al Golden was considered a guy who would love the Penn State job, but after failing at Miami I imagine he's not a candidate. Jim Knowles, not a candidate, but his move back to "home" is short lived. I saw that Dan Mullen was on somebody's list, but even given the success at UNLV I wouldn't be excited about him if I were a PSU fan. Cignetti would be a homerun hire, but he'd be crazy to leave IU.
Are the Vols one of your "permanent" rivals in the new 10 game SEC schedule? That narrow win vs an Arkansas team that was blown out badly by the Irish, makes me wonder about the Vols. But then maybe once Bobby Petrino was back in charge and shook up the staff a little, fired the DCoord I believe..the Hogs are a better team than the one the Irish faced.
Why not Brian Kelly. Here is a short cheat-sheet to help him transition from his recently acquired Southern accent to Central Pennsylvania one: Pennsylvania Dutch English (Southeastern/Central PA): Influenced by German and Scots-Irish dialects. May replace the "th" sound with a "d" sound. Features vowel and diphthong shifts, where "out" might sound like "ut," and "brown" might sound like "brun".
Hot Seat/Fired coaches. James Franklin ....PSU Mike Gundy .....OSU DeShaun Foster.....UCLA Brent Pry...Va.Tech Sam Pittman ...Arkansas Trent Bray ...Oregon State On the edge Luke Fickell ...Wisconsin Billy Napier ...Florida Mike Norvell ...FSU BB ...UNC Hugh Freeze ...Auburn Mark Stoops ..Kentucky.
Auburn, Tennessee and Miss State are our permanent opponents. I’m glad we kept Auburn and Tennessee. They are our two best traditional rivals.
I should have added Stanford as Frank Reich has said this is his only year and Andrew Luck has had quite a long time to make a list, check it twice and do all the behind the scenes tampering with coaches at other schools.
The recruiting fallout has begun at Penn State. Penn State suffered an immediate hit on the recruiting trail Sunday, will a slew of recruits decommitting in the aftermath of the school's decision to fire head coach James Franklin following 12 seasons with the program. Less than an hour after Franklin was fired, four-star 2027 recruit Kemon Spell, the No. 1 running back in the 2027 cycle and the No. 15 player overall in the ESPN Junior 300, decommitted from the Nittany Lions, sources told ESPN. Two other ESPN Junior 300 recruits -- offensive tackle Layton Von Brandt (No. 35 overall) and cornerback Gabriel Jenkins (No. 242) -- also announced Sunday that they'd be decommitting from Penn State's 2027 recruiting class upon news of the coaching change. With four-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor (No. 66 overall) decommitting on Friday, a once-promising Nittany Lions class in the 2027 cycle no longer holds a single pledge.
meh....coach is an SEC guy, I would expect nothing else from him. Curious to hear from him in light of the most recent B1G bowl record of 5-1 -v- the SEC last year, which of those victorious B1G teams he doesn't think can beat you and, in other news, I just got a late note from a Mr. James Franklin of central PA asking Coach where he included UCLA and Northwestern on his list?
It's always a fun, healthy and spirited debate re: B1G/SEC. I pay more attention to on field results, end of year polling and advanced analytics than any early/mid season polls. The 2nd consecutive Natty, 3 diff teams in the 4 finalists in the last 2 title game, 5-1 in post season -v- SEC tilt the scales in recent years to the B1G in my admittedly biased view. Advanced analytics show 3 B1G teams in the top 5 at the end of 24 -v- 1 SEC. 9 B1G teams in the top 30 -v- 10 SEC schools seems about even and supports the view that the B1G is at least equal if not marginally better at the very top-elite level and the SEC has a few more mid-tier though still very strong programs but the B1G is not quite as devoid of competitive programs as Coach would have you believe. That said, the PSU swoon this season surely not helping the debate for Team B1G. Jeebzus what a collapse....
That’s exactly what Saban said. The top 4 or 5 of both conferences are on the same level or the Big 10 may even be on top. It’s the next 4 or 5 in the SEC that he says can beat you. Just what you just said.
