From what I have read this morning, both Franklin and McSorely were comfortable with the call, looking for a crease in the middle of the line, only Chase Young had other ideas and met the play head-on. Funny how one play can look so good and end up as a disaster. We have had our share over the years as well.
Alabama rolled. Clemson did not look sharp and lost their freshman qb early in the game to injury. It didn't look serious but it did highlight the fact that the guy that decided to transfer would have had a chance to win back his spot. Georgia beat a hapless Tennessee but the Vols put up a better fight that I thought they would and Georgia didn't really look sharp. Penn St had Ohio State on the ropes but a combination of good play by Ohio State and bad tackling, and bad playcalling by Penn State led to the Buckeye win. I didn't see the game but as others have said on here, Notre Dame handily beat a good Stanford team. Maybe they have found the quarterback to bring them back to the top.
Give Tenn some credit for playing Georgia tough for most of the game and giving Pruitt some max effort. When I look at the 0-8 record of Kelly and Frost I'm pretty glad those guys turned UF down and we "settled" on Dan Mullen. He seems to have something good going on here.
Franklining the shark? Calling the Franklin? Watching the white out folks go from "we're #1!" to the surrender Cobra was extra special... 8)
I watched his post game press conference last night, he's intense. Maybe to the point of being....well nuts! McSorely is covering for him saying he thought it was the right call, what else is he going to say. One thing that is clear at this point at least, that Alabama is clearly the best and deepest team out there. Ohio State is maybe the leader of the 2nd group, and Georgia is probably 3rd the rest of us have warts and will need the old ball to bounce right to go undefeated as well as stay healthy. OU is going down next week!
AJ let's just say with the data available I'm happy with Mullen over the other two. That data of course may change in the future. Actually I was never sold on Kelly as the guy we needed here in the SEC but I did think Frost would have been a good hire.
A lot of good games on this weekend. The Ohio State v Penn State game was amazing, as advertised of course I didn't watch except for the last few minutes. The Notre Dame v Stanford game was a great game for Irish fans but not as dramatic for viewers like the Ohio State game. I did not see the Washington game but the Huskies apparently looked terrific against a good BYU squad. Sort of sets up the Stanford/UW game as the biggest game of the year for the Pac12. I would have felt a lot better about the Texas win at KState if we'd scored in the 2nd half and hadn't been on the cusp of losing the game. But still I see progress for this Longhorn squad. I don't expect to beat OU, but I think we can be competitive and give them a good game. Still not sure I believe in LSU, but that's mainly because Eddie O is the coach. I see that Va.Tech rebounded and beat Duke solidly. The book is closed now on September. Games get bigger now. I don't think other than late season SEC off week vs FCS schools anybody has anymore gimmie type of games. UCF is up to #12, if they keep wining they are going to keep rising likely..I don't see them rising to the CFP but last year #12 was the highest they got in the regular season. This time last year they were in the "others receiving votes" category. So they are way ahead of schedule.
