Well the Pac12 laid a historic egg in the bowl season. As I said before, I can't say that I am surprised. I look for them to bounce back quickly though. It wasn't that long ago the B1G was the conference that the talking heads were labeling 'too slow to play at an elite level.' Now, they are looking down at the rest of college football even without a single team in the national playoff.
Stu, that sounds like automatic bids to conference champions. Someone's champ is still going to get left out. And what about Notre Dame? :?
Well thank your lucky stars for the Houston Texans who were so bad this year than the Browns will now have the #1 and #3 draft picks! Top picks are piling up in Cleveland surely the talent will start turning things around!
Yeah what would have happened if the Irish hadn't wilted in Nov and beaten Miami and Stanford. Would we have edged out Alabama and Ohio State for that 4th spot? That would have been interesting, I'm sure members of all the Power 5 conferences would have been pissed. Still I do think the best 4 teams ended up in the Playoffs, that's really what everybody wants isn't it? Even at 8 teams, I'm against guaranteed bids (as I've said before). It's a rare year that the top 8 teams don't include all 5 conference champions but in that rare year wouldn't it be nice if the best 8 teams played it off and not the best 7 and the upset winner of a conference championship game? I mean, granted it's rare, but look at the '96 B12 Champs, Texas who upset the heavily favored Huskers. Do you really want a 7-4 Texas team in the playoffs?
Well you’re putting words in my mouth. But conference championships should count for a lot. And the bar should be high (not necessarily higher) for teams that don’t have to win them. That’s all I’m going to say. I started this not talking about Bama or even Notre Dame. Nor a 9-4 Texas team. I think that Wiscy has no claim on it over us which is what started me. Done here.
Ok I missed that about Wisconsin I would agree that this year if Ohio State didn't make the playoffs then neither should Wisconsin. Just as the year UM /OSU were 1/2 when they played there was some talk they both deserved to be in the BCS game over Fla. I didn't agree with that either. But that was a 2 team playoff. Conference championship games should count for something, and the loser shouldn't jump over the winner into the playoffs.
The contest is now officially over and Kp won the contest. Fritz was second and Stu third. Congratulation Kp and to all of you who participated.
The people who run the CFP playoffs said again this past week that there are no current plans to increase the number of teams from the current 4. The head of the committee said that he's not expressly against it but that the committee is happy with the way things have worked out. The only thing that 8 would solve is that it would virtually guarantee that all Power 5 Conference Champions would get a bid, either automatic (which I vehemently oppose) or by the fact that it's rare that they don't finish in the top 8 anyway.
eh, he gave the old BCS answer... 'Sure there's a better way to do it, but look at our ratings and crowds! Why rock the boat?'
