oh <t>as for the ND vs Florida comparison.. I would tend to believe that it shows a great offense can outscore opponents and hide a horrible defense over the course of a year better than a very good defense can hide a horrible offense.</t>
I think there were a few games like vs. Tenn and FSU and even Auburn and LSU that the Florida defense fluctuated between pretty damned good to average.....and certainly not terrible. Other games like Georgia and Michigan they were indeed terrible and forgettable.
well <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> No one is saying that. I'm saying that they were all down last year and seem to be again this year. <br/> <br/> As for 'scheduling' those teams.. don't give your Gators too much credit.. 4 of those 6 opponents are in your conference and you have no say in playing them.<br/> <br/> The other 2 are your in-state rivals. Somehow, only SEC teams seem to want credit for actually having to play their in-state rivals.</r>
Somehow the SEC in general and Florida in particular always comes up short in your analysis.
well <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> In this thread I spoke openly about my belief that the SEC has two legit NC contenders coming in and that Florida was one of those two. How is that coming up short?<br/> <br/> I don't know what more you could ask for then that, other than to bow down and just admit that the SEC has 4 legit NC contenders.. which is bullsh*t..</r>
Come on Corey that of course is not what I was referring to and I believe you know that. I don't expect you to admit any such thing if your don't want to, however this is the comment I was referring to Which since you seem to love the word, is bullsh*t. Only a few people would not want to give the Gators credit for scheduling Miami and FSU who despite having sub par years have been among the most successful programs over the last 20 years.
well slap my ass and call me jaded <t>that is exactly what I thought you were talking about.<br/> <br/> As for getting credit for scheduling them, of course they should be given credit for it. My point was that a recent perspective on that shows that it may not be as tough as it appears on paper.<br/> <br/> Perhaps its the ND fan in me. Year after year we schedule big games with conference teams, and sometimes those teams don't have the years that they figured to 10 years ago... but our schedule sucks.. is overrated etc.. meanwhile, that same microscope seems to escape a few others.</t>
I never quibble with teams that on paper have schedules that should have been competitive but for various reasons turned out not to be that way. ND had a schedule a couple of years ago that on paper was a bear but in reality turned out to have a lot of paper tigers on it because teams were having down years. Not the Irish's fault by any means. Last year OSU had a chance at a quality win by playing at Washington but the Huskies turned out lousy and that win was pretty much negated in their overall SOS. Not the Buckeyes fault but it happened nonetheless. As long as the SEC is what it has been the last few years then UF will always have a very highly rated schedule no matter how the non-cons turn out and this year the non-cons on paper do have fierce reps...on paper. Reality may be that the Gator's 2008 non-cons turn out quite beatable and ordinary and my bet is on that.
I think I am going to surprise you Corey and agree with everything you wrote in your last post. I think Miami and FSU are not only quite beatable but to lose to either of them would be quite an upset. I also don't remember ever throwing any stones at the Notre Dame schedule.
Bill, I don't believe Corey was directing his comments about the ND schedule at you. I believe he was just venting his frustration at one of the stones some people always lob at ND about its schedules.
