Maverick McNealy sort of chocked away this one, maybe that's not fair as Aberg played great down the critical last few holes. But the choice of hitting driver on 17 and failing to make birdie at least on the par 5 18 was his undoing. Even Tiger in the Booth with Nance was critical of that choice on 17 and it ended up in a disaster off the tee. He did recover for a par though. Scottie had a good tourney, if he'd not had such a disaster on Sat he'd probably won the tournament. Rory not so much California is done and it's on to the Florida swing.
All I can say is I enjoyed it. Why? Because I bet $3 on two differnt golfers to win. My $3 on Aberg paid $77.Wohoo! That's 2 trips to McDonalds. Seriously McNealy really gave it away. Me missed his birdie putt on 17 and then gagged on 18. Meanwhile Aberg did a great job 2 putting from forever on 18. This should be the week that they play at Doral but the woke aholes at the PGA moved it to Mexico because Trump owned it. Looking forward to local Bay Hill and the TPC.
I find it interesting that when Trump was President the first time they did everything they could do distance themselves from Trump, ditching the Blue Monster among many things. Now recently I saw an interview with Rory where he talked about playing recently with Trump and the Tour asking Trump to help them with LIV negotiations in some way.
The scrubs played in Mexico this past weekend. Not sure who won. Florida swing starts in West Palm Beach, a place i lived back in the 50's. It's at PGA National a course I played back in the late 70's,but I don't remember much about it. I was more of a Tennis player in those days.
Jake Knapp shoots 59 on one of the toughest courses on the PGA Tour, and Billy Horschel complains that overseeding it was a mistake that just makes it easier and prettier on TV while acknowledging that 59 is tough on any course and dueling with Gators!!
The tour plays at our "local" course Bay Hill this weekend. Some Villagers marshal at the event while others take a bus with a large group. Big names missing this year who would have preferred to play include Jordan Spieth and Ricky Fowler. Tournamet officials blame their absence on the new rules that only allow them to selelct 70 golfers. Tomorrow will ge cool and blustery due to a front which came in today. The other 3 days should be warm and pleasant with 80s on the weekend.
Kind of a dramatic win for Russell Henley at Bay Hill, chip in eagle ..yikes. It looked like Colin Morikawa was going to win handily, but then Henley pulled a few wabbits out of his bag and got the trophy. Now it's on to Sawgrass and the Players. Should be a good field and Sawgrass is a challenge for the top players. And yet another injury for Tiger, ruptured his achilles. Of course he's had surgery, and is back into rehab again. Is the end near for Tiger in competitive golf?
RIP John Feinstein author of a Good Walk Spoiled. Only 69. Feinstein wrote 48 books, 23 of which made the New York Times bestseller list, according to his website. His first book, "A Season on the Brink," which chronicled the 1985-86 Indiana University basketball season, made him a household name and spent 17 weeks at No. 1 on the Times' bestsellers list. The book detailed the coaching methods of Bob Knight and was later turned into an ESPN film. He also wrote "A Good Walk Spoiled," about a year on the PGA Tour in 1994-95, that was also a No. 1 bestseller, as well as a critically acclaimed book on the Army-Navy football rivalry. He also wrote more than a dozen teen mystery books. Feinstein was honored with the Curt Gowdy Media Award by the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013. He's also in the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame.
Rory had a wild day, wild of the tee but followed by some incredible shot making to make 7 birdies and finish -5, Scottie had a solid day but kept leaving himself with long putts for birdie which he got the distance right but would miss an inch right or left, finished -3. three tied at -6
How embarrassing for the Longhorns. The last people you'd expect to have boorish behavior towards players would be high level collegiate golfers. Idiot. University of Texas golfer Luke Potter has apologized after he reportedly was removed from the grounds at TPC Sawgrass earlier this week for heckling star golfer Rory McIlroy. Video of the incident spread on social media earlier this week. McIlroy, playing a practice round Tuesday at Sawgrass ahead of this week's Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, hit a drive on the 18th hole into the water, then immediately turned back, walked over to Potter standing outside the ropes, asked for his cellphone, took it and then walked away. It wasn't clear in the video what Potter said, but Golf.com reported that he referenced the 2011 Masters, when McIlroy melted down on the back nine Sunday, shot an 80 and finished 10 shots behind winner Charl Schwartzel.
No kidding, what a swing (no pun intended). What if no one showed up to Morikawa’s next press conference? I wonder what he would say? I get that these guys need to take care of themselves but without the press and the public they would be insurance salesmen.
