You gotta good football man as your HC and it appears that the school is opening the bank up to pay for top assistants. It looks like a good situation.

Sounds like a good hire, it will take some time to build things back up again.

I'm not so sure it will take a rebuild job, that's what Butch Jones did after Dooley's kid left the program in a bad way. Butch recruited a lot of players to Tenn to build the roster back up.

Pruitt is known to be an excellent recruiter though, so I'm sure he'll have an immediate impact in recruiting, maybe taking it to an Alabama level. Who knows.

I said this on the other thread. Pruitt is a very good defensive coordinator and recruiter. He has moved around a lot and never been a head coach. This is his big move up. It has worked out for Kirby Smart. Not so good for Alabama. :? :(

No doubt hiring a coord is a little bit of a crap shoot, but then so is hiring most HC unless they have a proven track record of success.

Certainly your hire of Saban was a proven guy, Ohio State's hire of Urban Meyer was a proven guy, Mich hire of Jim Harbaugh was a proven guy. Notre Dame's hire of Kelly was less so since all his success was at a lower level, just like Butch Jones.

Bob Stoops is an example of a guy who'd never been a HC who was an unqualified success. Will Muschamp is an example of a guy who'd never been a HC before and it showed.

Hiring coaches is mostly a crap shoot though.

Terry, I agree. What is so surprising is is the amount of money they are being offered and outrageous buyout packages. :?

Unfortunately, money does not necessarily equate with success. On the other hand, everyone seems to keep trying!

Reports are that Pruitt will make less than $4M/yr. I guess that's a bargain these days.

Yeah I saw that.. supposedly, they are giving him 4mil but they are offering top flight packages for assistant coaches to come aboard. Not a bad strategy.

Yeah, he was making $1.5M or so at Alabama so I'm guessing that is probably the top of the coordinators scale.

Well may the Gators and Vols rise up to challenge the Dawgs.

Our old pal Rodney is on Cloud 9.

I listen to ESPNU on XM a lot and an ESPN guy named Ryan McGee who is a Vol grad said he's hoping that Pruitt is left to do his job by Fulmer. He doesn't like Fulmer very much says it goes back to the Coup d'etat in the Johnny Majors days and that he fears that Fulmer will interfere with Pruitt as a coach.
