We are in Jackson Hole visiting the Grand Tetons now and so far haven't gotten any pictures to match Yellowstone. Our biggest miss so far is a moose and a bear. Here's some images from Yellowstone. A roadside view of the side of a mountain Two elks with really big antlers. These were taken on two days in the same spot, it may actually be the same elk. There were two of them but I can't tell the difference. Mammoth Hot Springs Old Faithful. The clouds detracted from the picture. A pronghorn, the fastest land based animal in the Yellowstone A river in a canyon Even these big guys need to rest And what pictures of Yellowstone be without a waterfall?
I'm posting these separately. Sometimes a picture doesn't have to be an award winning picture, in fact few of mine are, to have a special place in your memory or heart. Here's a few that fit that category. First, on our travels a couple of days ago the traffic came to a standstill. It wasn't in the area where the construction was going on and we wondered what was going on. It turned out to be a small herd of buffalo changing locations and they decided to use the paved highway. We waited about 20 minutes but it was worth the wait. Yesterday we were held up by buffalo again, some of them were crossing the road. We got this picture of a mom and her baby crossing the road. Then this picture as we passed them, we realized what the baby was trying to do all the way across the road. Here's a series of three. Jeanne taking a picture of a goat. The picture she took. The goat fell so much in love with Jeanne it decided to share the walkway with us. And maybe the most special of all. This mother bighorn sheep and her new baby that we believe was just born a few hours before. This was literally right beside the road. A couple of rangers were keeping watch to keep us tourists away from mother and child. We lost some sleep that night wondering how they were but heard the next day both were fine. Notice how the baby blends right in with the rocks. In fact we didn't see the baby on the way by but after looking closely at the picture did see it. On the way back the baby was standing but we couldn't get that picture.
Great photos, Bill. I feel like I'm there with you. By the way, are we there yet? I have to go to the bathroom.
Not to hijack Bill's thread here but since he's posted so many photos of animals I thought I'd post a few from my fishing trip. Of course all of Bills are of live animals...mine are of dead fish!
I kind of miss those days with the kids George. We would pull out of our house and get on the highway for about a 8 hour trip and 15 minutes after leaving the kids are asking are we there yet? Hey, nice fish terry, I didn't see many of those as we drove around Yellowstone. We are in Grand Junction Colorado tonight and going to the National Monument here tomorrow, then down to Gunnison for a couple of days to Gunnison National Park. After that starting Friday we will be in a remote cabin with no internet connection for about a week.
Hey Bill I don't know what your itenerary is but if you are coming through Texas you have a bed waiting. Sounds like you both are having a great time.
He Gonzo if your still interested Malloy was eating breakfast in his sister-in-laws kitchen in Jacksons Hole Wyoming...and these guys showed up asking for Bill they wanted to have their picture taken with Bill for you. Since Bill wasn't available Mike took their picture anyway. They look disappointed to me.
Thanks Cindy but we are not getting any further south than Colorado Springs and time is running out. I sure appreciate the offer and we might make it there one day. Terry/Gipper, that is a great picture. We didn't see a moose this time but saw several including a very young baby when we were out in in 2003. I may have a picture I can did up.
