Yeah they were just bulldozed unfairly by that mean old Rep Gov.

Teachers Union Curbs

I got this from another board...pretty much spot on.

So, the disastrous deal for the teachers is that they:

1) now have to now work 40 hrs per week (isn’t that a regular work week anywhere else?)
2) have to pay 12.6% of their health insurance costs
3) have to contribute 5.6% of their salary to pensions
4) allow the district to actually shop for a competitive insurance rates
5) continue making the same base pay as before
6) (and finally) continue working a paltry 184 days out of the year

The result of this disastrous deal is:

1) the school district goes from a $400k deficit to a $1.5m surplus
2) classroom size shrinks from 31 students to 26 (now that the teachers have to work a full day)
3) and the district will use some of the surplus money to hire even more teachers. And they'll use some of it to pay the good teachers more. Another option not mentioned is that they could lower taxes, too.

It looks like the children win. And the taxpayers. The teachers’ unions should be ashamed of themselves.

You have to ask, how can anyone with a brain be against those changes? It's a simple matter of not wanting to give up all that they've gained over the years, regardless of the greater good. Geeesh!
