I didn't see a topic on this any where so I'll post one. As I imagine a lot of you know our Freshman QB Will Grier has been suspended for a year for PED's. Like so many others he claims he used an over the counter supplement that had an illegal substance and made a mistake. Pardon my skepticism, but that's not an excuse. 9th Graders are warned about using products that are legal to buy but not legal where it comes to sports. I have loved what this young man brought to the table but this is pretty dumb on his part. He and the Gators are appealing but I don't think it will be successful, at best maybe a reduction to half a season. Otherwise we will see him in a year if he could win the job back. However the backup lost a close contest with him to be the starter and could well do very well. His name is Treon Harris. Will Grier suspension and possible effect on the SEC
My favorite comment about Grier that I read yesterday on a Gator sports forum is..... "way to go Richard cranium!!!! "
First of all Bill!! Glad to hear from you! How is France! Secondly, I don't believe he took the drug accidentally. I have no doubt that somebody put him on to it and told him not to worry about drug testing either because it's just a "vitamin or supplement" or they don't have a test for it. So he said ok if your brother in law gained all that muscle and got faster stronger with this then give me some. He's not the first and he won't be the last. Oh well at least he learned his lesson, but unfortunately others won't pay attention and will try stuff to get an edge. Hell Alabama players were sniffing ground up deer antlers to see if they could get an edge.
Doing well over here Terry Thanks. I'm with you, Grier took a calculated risk and lost. I personally think the penalty is to harsh for what he did but I for sure am not going to go along with it was an innocent mistake. Like I said 9th graders at the local high school in sports not as big as football are warned.
Half a season suspension would still be devaststating to this year but seems more fair than half of next year as well. I haven't seen the big game poise and accuracy shown by Grier in the UT and Ole Miss games by any Florida Qbs in a long time. He gave us a shot at LSU.... at making the CFB playoffs. I have not seen those intangibles from T Harris not that I have seen him much under the tutelage of McElwain. Until he flops I will be hopeful it's something he can handle.
