Was up in Boston back in the fall at a suburban steakhouse and at the bar was a grey haired gent having a steak.

Someone remarked how young he looked for his age and he says....in his best South Boston accent....."that's what a lifetime of killing people will do for ya"......

I began to get a little quieter after that......not mentioning the Gators at all anymore which seemed to annoy him even though I wasn't speaking to him directly but to another patron at the bar.... :)

Is that all it takes Dave?

You mean to tell me that all we had to do years ago was to profess that we spent a lifetime killing people and you would not have voiced your opinions so loudly around here?

    Dangit... missed opportunities! 8)

Just kidding. Glad you had the sense to clam up at that time.

He was one badass, that's for sure. He used to like to handle hits personally which is unusual for a mob boss. Word is that he liked to run victims over in his car, trussed up and kneeling and he would hit them full blast. But he would kill you any way he could . He had guys working for him inside the Mass. State Police and ran such an extensive protection racket in south Boston that nobody would speak out against him.

Dave, you did well clamming up in that situation if that was actually him.

Don't think it was him.....just a guy like him it seemed except 15-18 years younger and therefore still dangerous.

Spoke of a young man that escorted his 25 ish daughter ( she was there early on before leaving ) to a wedding ( mob wedding? ) and the kid showed up stoned and no suit on. This guy says " I shoulda wacked him"....and I think he meant it..or something close.

The whole time I sat there he had these mannerisms that you just can't fake......wise guy style......and I was OK with it until he noticed my Gator talk ( after a couple of tinis for me I perk up and talk a little sports in October ).....and that's when I got uncomfortable because you don't want to be noticed by guys like this who talk tough on their cell and who drink wine heavily after their daughter has left the bar. Said a little something derogatory under his breath about "what's a friggin gator anyway....etc... )

Needless to say I remembered I had to work the next day and cut my bar excursion just a little short... 8)

Good thinking, Dave. Those guys have no heart. The Irish mob is different. They're hard to catch, because they cut up their victims to leave no corpses behind and they've infiltrated everybody from the FBI to the state and local police. This is also their weakness as an organization. They use the same tactics on each other and they have no code of silence...

Even in police custody, guys like that aren't safe. Whitey should remember what happened to Abe Reles. He was the canary who couldn't fly...
The offical explanation of the police was that Reles, who was ratting out his pals in Murder Inc... attempted to escape from his sixth floor window...horizontally...by tying a few bedsheets together...
The never sympathetic New York newspapers called him, "The canary who sang; but couldn't fly."
