For a small private school with 8,000 undergraduate students, I'd say ND is doing OK.

The Austin American Statesman had a recent article that said inspite of all the revenue generated by the football team that the Ath. Dept finished the last reported fiscal year in the red. Some of it due to 1 time expenditures like the buyout of Strong's Louisville contract and the money due to Mack Brown.

But looking at that article it does seem to me like they have to use some financial voo doo to come up with those "intrinsic" values. But these sorts of lists always are fun. If Charlie Strong can get the Longhorns back to being a consistent top 10 team contending for the CFP every year then we'll be fine.

I also find it odd that Michigan a team who has had more than it's share of problems, esp with attendance from Students, still has an interim Ath Director, etc somehow has more "intrinsic" value than Texas. I'm baffled at what they might be basing that on? Population growth in Mich vs Texas? :)

Terry, I know what you are saying. The intrinsic value supposedly is conjecture about what a program would sell for (like a pro team), but I think there is probably a lot of subjective judgement about the intrinsic value. Fun fluff stuff though. It is now officially the football off-season.
