How in the world did they lose to Pitt? With all the talk about best teams I wish this team had won their last game and ended up in the game with OSU. Then we would have truly had the two best in the final game. They are awesome tonight.
Wow they just punked OU again 41-21. You know that Pitt is their big Rival sort of like Ohio State is to Michigan...I figure Rodriguez was just practicing for the annual loss to OSU in his new job!! Seriously though, these kids look great. I love Pat White and I am thrilled that he and WVU putting it too OU.... I hope they can continue and go on and get the win. Worst thing they can do is to start playing conservative now and trying to hold on. OU can score quickly...so it's not over. OU SUCKS!!
Watching them tonight almost makes me wish they were in the Championship game, they are awesome. I say almost because I still have some problems with teams from the Big East or ACC having much easier routes to the Championship. That would change with the ACC if Miami and FSU come back to playing to their old level. But I'm not sure I want to see that either.
Wow, I would not vote W. Virginia number one, but they have my vote for number two behind whoever wins Monday night. This team would have killed either Georgia or S. Cal. I think that's why they weren't invited either to the Rose Bowl or the Sugar Bowl.
LOL <r>that's just great. A team shut down by South Florida and Pitt (mind you, WVa was at full strength in both games) is now the clear #2?<br/> <br/> I say we have a playoff and end this madness.<br/> <br/> Another article from one of those writers who wrote off USC and now regrets it.<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I mean, these guys at ESPN can't be wrong can they? <E></E></r>
Hey Corey, it makes as much sense to me that a team that lost to S. Florida is that good as it does to say a team that lost to Stanford is that good. It doesn't to you?
Gee, and with out a QB injury, Ore. would be playing for the NC. The only difference is no one is crying about thier injury (not injuries.) Tell that to the UGa fans who think that beating Hawaii was better than beating Ga. Southern.
again, context <t>my case is for a playoff.<br/> <br/> We've seen West Virginia lose twice at full strength.. You saw USC lose when they were gutted by injuries.. You're confusing my case for my Dad's..<br/> <br/> I contend that with a playoff, no one wants a part of USC or UGa now. All that stuff about USC having AAs selling programs isn't my case.. I could care less about all that.<br/> <br/> Read the article I posted, once USC got healthy, the ass whippings were on and have gotten worse.. UWVa struggled down the end coughing up their shot at a title game in the last week.<br/> <br/> We saw what USC did to a spread option just 24hrs ago...and West Virginia can't pass.. Illinois was not a bad team.</t>
WVA was not at full strenght for those 2 losses, in both of them Pat White went out early...that's the same as Dennis Dixon going out for Oregon. He's the straw that makes that offense go. WVU has a quandry now, they haven't even interviewed Bill Stewart a WVU grad and native of WVa (hmmm maybe they've had it with that combo), but with this huge win tonight there will be a big swell of public opinion to give him a shot. The key is can he bring in a OCoord who can take advantage of what RR built there with regards to the offense. If the next guy isn't a spread guy, then they won't be as good...Pat White is not a kid who can thrive in a conventional offense.
Corey, I don't think anyone here disagrees with you about a playoff. However we don't have one. I read your article and still don't agree S. Cal is the best. Even with a 4 team playoff with the polls S. Cal would not have been in the mix. The best team in the country is playing Monday night, it is still to be determined who that is, tune in.
I guess <t>its worth noting that WVa was losing to South Florida when the 'straw' went down and he wasn't moving the team much against Pitt although they were leading 7-3 I believe..<br/> <br/> By that same token, USC's qb had played injured and then was out for the Oregon loss.</t>
He "The Straw" could have erupted at any moment and put up 30 points...we never got the chance to find out. That other guy is a stiff.
OK I've had it. At the All-Star break the Detroit Tigers had the best record in baseball last year but because of injuries they had troubles in the second half. Even though baseball has a playoff system, the Tigers didn't make it. Obviously baseball is unfair. Let's forget records, the season, injuries etc. Even if a team is 6-6 if they've had some injuries they should be playing for the NC. It used to be that "injuries are part of the game" now they're the lamest of excuses.
so what are the rules <t>exactly?<br/> <br/> who gets in and who is out?<br/> <br/> they aren't clear and that is the problem.</t>
Sometimes Corey you just have to go with what is available and who earned it most during the whole season. The obvious number one in my book this year is Ohio State. They lost only one game and play in one of the four conferences that in my book are pretty well even. For the record that is the SEC, the Big 12, the PAC 10 and the Big 10. Who is number 2, again in my opinion the right choice was LSU. You can make excuses for Georgia and S. Cal all night long, but Georgia didn't win any conference championships so to me that eliminates them. That leaves LSU, S. Cal, Oklahoma and Va Tech. In my opinion LSU was the most deserving. Could you make a case for any of the other three, of course and prior to tonight that would have been Oklahoma for me with S. Cal next. You are talking like we have some perfect world where we can make all the proper choices. Ain't gonna happen. Gipper makes a really valid point as far as you have to live by what happens during the season, no excuses. Besides what's the big deal about losing Booty, didn't JO'Co point out rather sharply that S. Cal had four QB's that were so good that Tebow couldn't even crack the four deep? If they are that good they should be able to lose their top three QB's and still play and win.
I'm writing this post only because my poor helpless son can't defend himself. I don't really agree with anything that he says, I just feel a parental need to play daddy. Besides, we all look alike anyway and we breed like wabbits... No, wait! This post is actually a metaphor for my secret agenda: attacking Florida and its poaching coaches by seeming to be talking about other teams, when I actually mean the "F" word team... No, wait again! I'm a closet Trojan, because I live in SoCal. I just love to hear them play the same two songs over and over and over and... No, wait even more! How about Oklahoma? Under the logic that beating them makes a team at least #2 in the nation and worthy of a title shot, then where would that place Boise State last year? In fact, when was the last time that Oklahoma won one of these games? Is beating the Sooners in a BCS bowl proof of anything? I have a modest proposal. I call it the, "Not so fast formula." Next time, why don't they make Oklahoma beat the WAC champion before they get invited to a BCS game? Last year, they would have been stopped by Boise State. This year, they could have had a swell matchup with Hawaii that would have been a very even contest. Next year, maybe Fresno State will kick their arse... The two best teams have already played. Everybody knows it. For those of you keeping score at home: I don't believe in a playoff system. I think that you can have a bowl formula that will work, IF the SEC and Big 12 will vote honestly, which of course they won't. Now this is the exact opposite of what Corey believes... or are we just saying that to conceal our hidden conspiracy and real agenda...?
ah hell <t>let them vote any way they want to..<br/> <br/> round robin conference play, conference champions automatic bids (11), 5 at-large bids. drop the effing puck and do this drunk already. Heck, with 5 at-large bids.. you don't even need the round robin play. No matter how you slice this pie, the SEC and Big12 will try to find a way to get 3 teams in anyway, let them do it!<br/> <br/> it isn't hard. its not even complicated.<br/> <br/> there was a point in time in which the 'traditions' of college football kept conference foes from playing one another and the major powers separated due to bowl ties..<br/> <br/> we moved onto a 'bowl alliance' that was sure to tie the knot.. but the pac10 and big10 wouldn't give up their 'traditions.' it cost them national exposure and possibly NC consideration.. so they sold their souls.<br/> <br/> so we move onto the BCS and the world of the 'super conference.' but now we're back to conference foes who don't play each other and make shift criteria that seems to change every time we turn around. now we're trying to protect the 'traditions' that just don't exist anymore.<br/> <br/> December football has almost gone the way of the Dodo. <br/> <br/> Losing late use to be killing joke to a team's season.. Starting with the Bobby Bowden Memorial Coaching award NC, we slowly moved away from that.. Still, it was better to lose early than late.. Now we've got teams talking about their 'body of work' who lost early and late.. while discounting a team that lost twice early. this whole thing is crap.<br/> <br/> With 11 conference champ slots and 5 at-large bids, that leaves all the wiggle room in the world to set some lame minimum standard on ND that will be fair to most, absurd to others.. You can also come up with some minimum ranking or 'no one lower than 2nd place' rule...<br/> <br/> You can do this. It can be done. If its a champion you seek.. otherwise this is all ice dancing with a big jazz hands finish.</t>
I don't have a horse in this race. To me USC is light years better than anyone out there. It is not even close. And Pete Carroll is the best coach in college football. That's not close either.
