Watching the Yankee game last night I learned three things about this team that completely surprised me.

First, Mike Mussina won his 10th game. That is 15 years that he has won ten or more games. That places him first in that category in American League history.

Secondly, there is only one other team in baseball who's top three starters have more combined wins than the Yankees Johnson, Mussina and Wang.

Lastly, the Yankees have apparently stolen more bases this year to date than they did in the entire 2005 season.

Makes you wonder how this team is not in 1st place. Until you consider that they have four all-star players out with injuries( Sheffield, Matsui, Damon and Cano ) and that their #4 and #5 pitchers have been a complete failure.

    Weird season for the pinstripers.

Without peaking, I'm going to guess the Mets with Glavine, Pedro & Trachsel. I don't think the Cubs (Maddux) or the Astros (Roger) have enough wins in their #2 and #3 starters to qualify.

The Tigers with Rogers, Verlander and Robertson may lead the league.

    Gip,

I'm pretty sure you are correct, but I think George was referring to combined career wins. If it's this year only, I would pick the Tigers in a nanosecond.

Well if any other team has their top 3 pitchers with more than 29 wins, I'm impressed.

Its the White Sox. Their starting five all have 9-10 wins each.
