Well certainly some shaking out this weekend. 1. Down goes Oregon State, beaten on the road by a schizoid Washington Huskie team that now has upset two undefeated Pac12 teams. They also beat Stanford, also at home. I didn't think Oregon State had a prayer of going undefeated, so it was just a matter of time till the bubble burst. 2. Down goes Oklahoma. The Irish were 12 point underdogs, there was ESPN talk that a certain OU win would propel them up the BCS standings and give them an outside shot at the BCS Championship game. After all since the KState loss they'd been averaging 50+ points a game and their defense was a monster. Oh well apparently not. 3. Down goes the Gators. They were done in by a terrible offensive performance. I hadn't really seen them play this year but in watching highlights I got the feeling that Driskel was a star in the making. But at least Sat he was terrible, although I have to say Andy Murray the UGA QB who everybody talked about in preseason, that guy is terrible as well and he's an upperclassman. In the end it was a big play by that UGA reciever who mouthed off a couple of plays earlier and cost his team dearly, that was the difference. Gator defense is still awesome, but they can't do it by themselves. 5. Down goes the Tenn Vols. O-5 for the 3rd year in a row. They gave So.Carolina all they wanted that' s for sure, but it still was a loss. That injury to Marcus Lattimore was just gruesome to watch. I don't know why they insist on showing it over and over and over. I hope the kid can recover and play again. I have to wonder though if he'll ever be the same. Question is now will the Vols give Dooley another year? If they don't who will they go after. It's a plum job, with fan support, facilities and a history of being succesfull recruiting nationally. I'm sure as well that they can afford to pay a top coach top money. 6. Neb over Michigan. Didn't see it but Huskers are 6-2 now and well positioned for a run at the Rose Bowl. Michigan doesn't score a TD again, very odd. I see that Denard Robinson was knocked out of the game, I'm sure that was a huge reason they didn't score a TD. What's his status going forward? Were's AJ? 7. USC loses again? What the F? Just when Barkley was supposedly resurrecting his Heisman candidacy they gack up another loss. They are still tied with UCLA for the Divison lead so they still in the race for the Rose Bowl. I guess it comes down to the USC/UCLA game. 8. Oregon pummels hapless Colorado. Man the Buffs are just awful, under Gary Barnett they had some good teams but they are a shell of those teams. I don't even know who their coach is to tell you the truth. But it's going to be hard for them to dig themselves out of this hole. They don't have a lot of instate talent to recruit from, and they have to rely on getting kid from out of state, but who would want to go their? Ducks, how good are they really? So far they played a extremely weak OOC schedule which is hurting them in the rankings, but starting next week with USC they will finish with strong schedule and we'll see how good they really are. 9. Aggies hump Auburn. Johnny Football runs wild on the plains of Auburn. Aggies are much better than anybody thought they would be, I think most of us thought Kevin Sumlin was a reach, I mean that flag football offense that worked in CUSA wouldn't work in the SEC. OK we were wrong. Not to mention they seem to be playing pretty good defense as well. Next 2 games will tell a lot, I expect they can beat Miss State, and it'd be sweet for them to upset Alabama...but realistically they just need to play them close. 10. Texas...oh my almost lost to Charlie Weis! Had to bench David Ash who up till Sat had been playing well and looked to be our starter for the next few years. But he was back to the old David Ash Sat. Case McCoy is not the answer at best he is the Texas version of Tommy Rees. Again our defense makes the the opposition RB look like an AA, and Charlie doesn't even like to run the ball. Looking bleak in Austin, I'll be surprised if we beat either Tech or KState. I do think we can beat TCU and Iowa State and that would be 8-4. Lose all 4 and it will get down right nasty around Austin.
ND was very impressive......they look formidable right now... the best I have seen the Irish look since Lou Holtz. UF screwed the pooch but still had plenty of chances in that game so that tells me Georgia will get their clock cleaned if they play Bama......as would UF with that pedestrian offense. I have to hope Muschamp isn't tinkering with Pease's offensive gameplan because to me the playcalling seemed a little horse collared at times. That win by UF over A&M was a damned good one on the road and the Aggies are proving that..... they look Cotton Bowl bound for certain. Michigan seems pretty average this year.....kind of disappointing to their fans I think. I will be surprised Dooley isn't gone before the end of the season.... I think his likeability is the only thing keeping him there at this point. A change needs to be made well before recruiting is finished. How about Ohio State? Meyer is keeping his team unbeaten and they have a shot at 12-0....... wouldn't the Buckeye fans just love that and salivate about the possibilities for next season. I think Meyer wins an NC with that team within the next 2 years if his health holds up.
Yeah what a first year for Meyer and the Buckeyes. I would agree that Braxton Miller will be even better next year and that is scary. I think the Buckeyes will be undefeated this year as the Big 10 is down in terms of quality teams this year. Unthinkable that an undefeated Ohio State team will not be in the conversation for the Nat'l Championship. Will they still be on probation next year as well?
Also while comparing victories is a exercise in futility. I think the Irish win over OU in Norman was far better than the KState win in Norman earlier. I think the Irish could take KState. As far as Georgia. As bad as Andy Murray played against the Gators I wouldn't be shocked if they lost another game before the SEC Championship game. Also while I don't think Alabama is going to lose to LSU this weekend, if they did would it set up another SEC BCS Championship game rematch? I don't think so, I think everybody is pretty much sick of the SEC and I don't think a 1 loss SEC Champion gets into the BCS title game over undefeated teams...assuming at least 2 of Oregon, ND or KState finish undefeated.
No doubt LSU should be a tough out for Bama and I agree that unbeaten Oregon, ND and probably K-State would keep once beaten Bama out of the mix. Ole Miss is the only shot the Gators have of seeing a Georgia loss..... mostly because the Rebs do have an offense that will score points and I have seen Georgia many times under Richt not getting the complete job done.
A very strange season thus far with numerous upsets. Notre Dame is for real apparently and a tremedous defense, which will prevail in many close games. Hard to read Wisconsin this year as well as Nebraska. Michigan needs Robinson back or will lose more games. Buckeyes just keep wining, but sometime I am not ceartin why? We will be bowl elgible next year. Loks like Bama and KSU for all the marbles at this juncture. USC could cause problems.
1. Yeah, you had to figure Oregon St would trip up. It's really hard to make it all the way through, and while they are good, they aren't THAT good. 2. Not surprised by the ND win. As Mike Golic says: if you have a good defense, and a good running game you can win on the road. ND does, and did. Very strong defense... not many of those around any more. 3. UF did what you can't do: multiple turnovers. That last one was a heart-breaker. Not sure why you skipped 4?? 5. I only saw bits of this one. No comment on Dooley... only the Tenn folks really know where he stands. Lattimore's leg... ugh. I just hope he can WALK normally again, much less play. 6. Didn't see it either. NU just kinda keeps creeping along. I'm sure it's not the way AJ would like it, but wins are wins. 7. USC seems to be a little Jeckyll and Hyde. They are very talented, but can find ways to screw the pooch that defy reason. Good for them! 8. Oregon probably took it easy on CU. God they are awful. Could have been 100 easily from a speed Oregon team. 9. Aggies are humming along now. Auburn got caught by the offense in full sync. No turnovers, and good reads by Johnny all night. MSU should be more of a test, but if we don't turn it over again... they are in trouble. God I hope we don't get stuck in the Cotton bowl. Let us go somewhere NEW! 10. Wow... I couldn't believe you just didn't run over them? Why was Ash throwing so much in the first place? It's a mess in Austin right now.
Scott you never answered my question about Johnny Football vs Reggie before Fran ruined him? Reggie was very dynamic, threw a great deep ball, but wasn't an option QB. I would not be surprised to see you in the Cotton Bowl again, but this time you won't have to face a SEC team, just a flag football team from the B12!
5: Mistakes continue to plague the Vols. We were driving for the tieing FG or winning TD in USC territory with less than 2 minutes left... Fumble. Same story as the Georgia loss. HOW DO YOU BLAME THAT ON DOOLEY? This team believes they will lose instead of believing that the WILL win. THAT, you can blame on Dooley and his assistants. This weekend is Troy at home. If we don't have a blowout win there, you will hear the boo birds flying in Neyland. Next id Missouri at home. If we hung with South Carolina in their back yard, Missouri should at least be a close win at home. Next is at Vandy. This is not your grandfather's pushover Vandy. I worry about that game. Kentucky... at home... this could be the game that brings Dooley down. If he loses to Kentucky at home as bad as they are, that could seal his fate. 10: I see a lot of Texas fans on a daily basis. Finally, they are silent when my Vols lose.
"USC seems to be a little Jeckyll and Hyde. They are very talented, but can find ways to screw the pooch that defy reason. Good for them!" Let's see.... unusual inconsistency in performance....hmmmm.... sounds like a management...er....coaching issue. That's right.... God's gift to coaching.. ole Laney boy is the Trogs coach. Nice goin.....
Terry, Well it's really not an apples to apples comparison. Reggie was a pocket passer with a rocket arm that happened to have track speed. What might have been without Fran is hard to imagine. The game against OU his freshman year gave a taste, but it pretty much went downhill from there with the option offense taking over. He didn't like Fran's offense, or Fran so he ended up kind of fading into the sunset. Johnny Football is a good passer, but he's just ridiculous on the run. He truly has no idea that he shouldn't do the things he does. Nobody is really sure what he will do on any given play, even his coaches. However... he is working hard on learning the skills of a true passing QB, and getting better each game. If that light truly comes on (and I see nothing so far to indicate it's not) our offense will be a terror no matter who we line up against.
- Still surprised by Florida's performance. Somebody said they had four turnovers all year; then had six in one game against Georgia. If the Gators find some offense and limit the turnovers, they will be tough. - Who put Rutgers in the Top 25 at #15? Now that they've lost to Kent State can we cut the crap? - Stanford had trouble with Wazzoo. There is a lesson there for ND fans who believe that Pitt at home and BC @ Boston are not banana peels... - Utah is slowly getting acclimated to the 12Pac, but Colorado is not. Too bad the NoCal universities are keeping BYU out of the conference, because of their hatred for Mormons... - I like Corey's description of the ACC as a "dumpster fire." I wish I had thought of that one... - I agree that K-State is good, but not that good. They're playing above their talent level and they better hope that Bill Snyder lives forever...
Think your team has QB issues? Well how about Maryland. Their starter last year transfered to Wisconsin. They started Fall Camp with 4 QB's on the roster. This is what has happened since then.
Not to much to say. Gators lost that game with 6 turnovers including being at the goal line at the end of the first half and 4th quarter and coming away with no points. Eliminate both and we win, eliminate the one at the end and it's possible we send the game into overtime. Blah. Still we are light years ahead of where we expected to be this year. Notre Dame is a lot better than I thought, I truly expected Big Game Bob to win this game. Four undefeated teams after nine weeks and none of them play each other. I would expect Oregon to improve in the computer polls if they win out but if Kansas State wins out and Bama wins out I expect those two in the Championship game. Bama's a lock if they win out, I wouldn't say that about the other three. It looks like USC has the power to be the most disruptive.
