In golf they call it moving day. Saturday was moving day in college football. Not surprising in that it was the first weekend that college teams across the board played real FBS opponent. No 1AA teams on the schedule.

    1. Irish thump Miami. I did not see this coming, I knew Miami was young but they had put up pinball numbers on offense against a couple ACC teams not against FCS opponents. I thought our young guys in the defense would get burned on the deep ball. But while they nearly did, the Miami receivers couldn't hold on to the ball. After that it was all ND.

    2. Gators/LSU. Very impressive win for the Gators. Their defense continues to look awesome. I really like Driskell as a QB, he's a big kid who can run the ball on you, no Vince Young but he can make you pay. Strong arm as well. I can't decide if the LSU offense though is that bad or it was just the Gators on defense that made them look so bad.

    3. So.Car/Georgia. No way anybody saw this coming, was that a Steve Spurrier coached team? I don't think that was the fun and gun offense. So. Car is much better than I thought they were, and Georgia is disappointing. Andy Murray is supposed to be great and they supposedly have 2 stud RB's. But they didn't do much. Certainly makes the SEC East interesting again.

    4. Texas/WVA I'm totally shocked that we lost this game. I expected that WVA would be able to score on us, but I thought we would run up and down the field on that defense that gave up 60+ to Baylor. That kicker we stole away from Penn State...he missed a crucial field goal that would have sent it to OT. KICKERS! While I did not see Texas as a team that would go undefeated this year, I did think we would beat WVA, they are a Big Least team though aren't they?

    5. Stanford/Arizona I have no clue what to think about this game. Is Arizona that good on offense, is Stanford that bad, USC didn't score that much on Stanford. This was an old time Pac10 game. Whoever has the ball last wins.

    6. UCLA/CAL ...I can't believe CAL kicked their butts so bad, what happened to the team that looked so fast, so overwhelming in that game against Neb.

    7. Oregon/Washington....Oregon is just well Oregon, they are fast, do everything with precision and are merciless. They get the ball back with 31 secs left in the half and most teams just take a knee and go to the lockeroom. Nope, they put up a couple of deep balls trying to score, oh and they were already up 28 points. To me though there is a question about can they play with a physical team who has just as much speed such as Alabama. They couldn't play with Auburn, they couldn't play with LSU, have they learned anything from those games? We may find out if they make it to the BCS champ game. I think Alabama is the brick wall to their speed.

    8. FSU/NCState....moving day for FSU, moving down.

    9. Neb/Ohio State...moving day for Neb, moving down. Braxton Miller watch out, this year he's gotten the training wheels off, next years preseason Heisman leader.

    10. Texas A&M/Ole Miss. Aggies put up 30 points on the same Ole Miss defense Texas put up 66 points. Always good to get a road win, but color me unimpressed.

    11. Kansas State/Kansas...poor Charlie Weis, he talks the talk but can't walk the walk. KSTATE on the other hand is my choice to win the B12. I don't think Texas can beat them on the road. They have already beaten OU, TCU lost their QB. I could see them going undefeated. Lack of B12 Championship game helps them IMHO.

    12. USC/Utah. The Utes had them on the ropes, but there is really just too much talent on the USC side to let this game get away even spotting them 14 quick points. Inspite of all the talent USC probably loses a couple of more games. I hope 1 is to the Irish. It will definitely be a great game with Oregon as well.

    13. Tenn Vols....mistake free this weekend! :)

Great write up as usual Terry.

Notre Dame, right in the thick of the BCS

Texas and W. Virginia, I was also shocked, I think that this would be the weekend that caught up with the Mountaineers.

Gators, this team is built around defense and our defense has gotten better every week. This was our first game this year and what a game it was. By the end LSU was completely worn down. Gators only threw 12 passes.

However Steve Spurrier who invented the fun and gun, his team only threw 10 passes.

Georgia, see another topic I am about to start about what some fans did to Arron Murray's house.

    FSU, reality bites again.

The only thing I can add is that picking winners from here on out in the Yahoo Pickem Contest, is going to become even more difficult

10a) Did you put up 66 points, and still win the game after SIX turnovers?

    Nuff said.

How does Texas give up 48 with what was supposed to be a top 10 defense?
I thought you guys were playing LIKE an SEC team.
I think it's my turn to be unimpressed.

    1. Miami and UCLA are very similar teams. There's a lot of young talent and sometimes they look young instead of talented. Both teams got their lunch money stolen last Saturday and that's going to happen. The Bruins are starting 15 teenagers out of 22 spots. Both teams will upset some good teams with their talent, but other days, the mistakes will bury them...

    2. I thought LSU was overrated all year. They're six games into this season now and all of their excuses ring hollow. They looked underwhelming against North Texas; then played their only good game of the year in beating UDub; they pasted a terrible Idaho team (So what?); then barely survived against one of the worst Auburn teams of the last 50 years 12-10; they had a difficult time putting away Towson (Who?); then lost to a good Flordia team without demonstrating any offense at all. Their current rash of injuries is on top of the fact that they've beaten only one good team in six tries and they appeared overmatched against the Gators...

    3. I really don't care where my Irish are ranked. We're currently at #7 and still have home games remaining with Stanford and BYU, with road games at Oklahoma, Boston College and USC. If the team wins all of that, they'll be up there somewhere...

    4. Just as I thought LSU and FSU were overrated, I've always thought Florida was underrated. Like ND, they have a solid defense with a developing offense. The more offense they can produce, the farther they will go...

    5. Michigan is currently underrated. Losses to Alabama and Notre Dame shouldn't put them all the way down at 25th, and the Michigan-Ohio State game should settle things in the Big Ten...and that's the way it should be.

    6. I picked SCar to beat Georgia (who was also overrated) but I too was shocked by the ease with which the Gamecocks won...

    7. Texas vs West Virginia was another of those Big 12 pinball games with astronomical scores. We West Coast fans are sick of watching it. Can't anybody back there play defense?

    2. Although the Gators had something to do with it, this is the third game in a row LSU's offense hasn't really clicked. I'm thinking it was as much LSU as Florida.

    3. Just another Georgia team with all-world promise that couldn't get it done. We seem to see this movie every year.

    4. hehehehehehehehe

    5. After the last couple B12 games, that's rich coming from you guys! ;) I was surprised that Arizona was able to rip through Stanford seemingly at will. Their Offense can't be that bad since they were shut out just a week ago by Oregon, can it?

    6. We see this movie every year, too. UCLA with all-world talent can't get it done. Cal wins the ones they shouldn't, and loses the ones they should. I guess that means my Cougs have a chance, still??

    7. Oregon and Washington hate each other more than UW/WSU and OU/OSU. They would have scored with 30 seconds left if they were up 95.

    8. Oops!

    9. Man Braxton is a fun kid to watch! Frustrating to the D, so glad I haven't had anything invested in any of the games I've watched him.

    10. I don't think TAMU really cares what tu thinks anymore, they've moved on to better things. I didn't see this, but it sounds like it was a sloppy one.

    11. So KSU is who you're hanging your hat on for being the real one in the B12? They've been impressive to date.

    12. USC still needs to dodge the injury bug. As we saw when their center went down, they are a completely different team when the second string is in there. If the starters are healthy, they're going to be tough for anyone.

The surprising Oregon St Beavers suffered a blow, they've lost their starting QB with a knee injury indefinitely. Next man in.

BYU also lost their starting QB for the season. Freak injury at the end of the game, he was supposed to take a knee and let the clock run out but there was a miscommunication and he ran a play and was injured.

His replacement is a Sr. who has been a starter.

How good is Oregon? Arizona is averaging about 45 pts. per game except in their game against Ore. The Ducks SHUT THEM OUT??? The cats scored 7 TDs against Stanford last week.

Al Groh fired by Paul Johnson as the Ga.Tech DCoord. The Jackets defense has been awful this year and it was awful last year. That loss to Middle Tenn was just unexplainable.

But that said this year seems to be a year when coaches are taking quick action on coaches who aren't doing the job. Wisc fired it's OL coach after 2 game, UofH fired it's OCoord after 1 game and now Ga.Tech firing it's DCoord in midseason. Groh himself has a reputation for being one of the top 3-4 DCoord in the country. I figured it was quite a coup for Johnson when he hired him after UVA let him go as the head coach. Johnson essentially said Groh made things so complicated that the players couldn't play fast.

Shows you how important it is to get the right people. When I look at failed ND coaches, Davie had Donut Jim Colletto forced on him by Wadsworth, that didn't work and then he tried the Syracuse OCoord who never could get anything going either. Other than that Davie had a good staff as a number of them have done very well (some guy named Meyer won a couple of NC's). Charlie had the opposite problem, he never could get a defensive staff right. Pete Carroll at USC started to slip as key members of his staff moved to other jobs and weren't replaced by equal or better coaches.

Original post forgot to mention TCU crashing back to earth.
Sure they lost their QB, but that doesn't explaing all the points ISU put up on a Gary Patterson defense that was supposed to be so good...

    BWAHAHAHA!

Yep... the Frogs are a definite upgrade for XII.

Well you have to admit that the Frog program was much more significant on a national and state level than your Ags the last few years. So from that standpoint it was an upgrade, but that's not the whole picture. Can't replace the overall history and tradition of the Aggies moving, even if recently you guys have been pretty average. Can't replace your fan base either. And no matter how much both fan bases say good riddance to the other...Turkey Day won't be the same for either.

Funny I never think of Fla as a hunting state. But I would imagine that Bird hunting, esp water fowl would be pretty good. Do you have a good deer population? How about feral hogs?

Of course while you are out hunting please watch out for boa constrictors who might be hunting you! :)
