Another week with some very good games and important games. Teams are at the point where they can lose and recover (win out). Thursday Game BYU vs UCF BYU can't afford to lose here road game or not, they of course will be without Tayson Hill, very tough kid to lose esp since he's your QB. Friday Games: Wazzu vs Stanford : Bot teams need this win badly, Tree's to avoid a 3rd loss and a 2nd one in the Pac12. Wazzu just needs a win, they've had a tough luck kind of season. Sat: Georgia at Missouri: Georgia can't afford another SEC loss. TCU vs Baylor ...battle of the unbeatens. Winner has huge advantage. Oregon at UCLA...another must win game for both teams, can't afford a 2nd conference loss. Alabama at Arkansas...Hogs are a tough physical team, Bama a little beat up. Bama must win. Wash at CAL ...another game neither can afford to lose and get that 2nd conference loss. Penn State at Michigan...not really a lot on the line here, I don't think Penn State will figure into the B1G title race. But it's at Michigan and it's Michigan so it's a big game. LSU at UF....LSU season down the tubes but still dangerous. Gators still in it for the SEC East. Have to win at home in the Swamp to keep it going. Bet this is another defensive slugfest like last week. Neither team is good on offense. Ole Miss at Texas A&M...the line in today's Chronicle shows the Aggies as slight favorites, 1.5 - 2 points. So call it even. I think the Ag's can win, Ole Miss certainly coming off their biggest win in a very long time. Might experience a let down. USC at Arizona. Is Arizona this years Pac12 Cinderella team, they are the only undefeated team left in the conference. I like USC to pull the upset. FSU, Mich State and Notre Dame all have games that they should win easily. Except nothings easy is it? Then there is the Red River Shootout/War. OU stinging from defeat at TCU will be looking for the blood of the Longhorns. Unfortuneately for the Longhorns they don't have much to fight with, I think our defense is pretty good and Strong is noted for his defenses...but with no offense they get worn down. If they get us on the run, Stoops will pile up as many points as he can, he knows a big win over even a wounded Texas will impress the voters.
I was listening to Channel 91 on Sirus/XM this morning and they were talking playoff picture. Now granted they were strictly talking who's in right now, not who will be in next week or the week after or at the end of the season. But it was FSU and 3 SEC teams. No kidding. So ESPN has a similar deal and the playoff picture for week 7 is FSU and 3 SEC teams. Right now everybody is saying the Pac12 is out, too many good teams and not a dominant team. People are now edging the B1G Champion back into the picture if they run the table, either Mich State or Ohio State. One of the guys this morning did say that he thought Oregon would run the table and would get a slot though. Nobody seems to think a B12 team will make it now that OU has a loss. If FSU gets upset somewhere..hopefully in 2 weeks by ND..then I think there might even be talk of 4 SEC teams!! Seriously. I would be shocked it there isn't a lot of controversy over the 1st final four.
You know it will work itself out. The networks want controversy to keep their ratings up. The SEC is going to continue to beat up on each other. I will be surprised if the champ doesn't have at least one loss. I'm not sure I see an undefeated team out there... That will make the selection week all the more fun. Of course not everyone will be happy, but they never are. I think this stuff is all great fun, and it has made this season even better.
If FSU beat the Irish in 2 weeks I don't see them losing to anybody else left on their schedule. Auburn, Ole Miss, MSU, Baylor, TCU, Arizona...I'll be surprised if any of them make it through undefeated.
I saw those, times have changed and if you don't have several uniforms for your team then your out of style. Wear traditional uniforms for all games...pshaw kids like bling, style, pizzazzz....old fart alums/fans hate change though and complain all the time about uniforms.
Officals under fire everywhere...last week the Iowa State AD took to the podium and ranted about B12 officals and got fined 25K. Colorado HC screamed and followed the Pac12 officals off the field following their close loss to Oregon State. The Pac12 supervisor of officals has just resigned, according to the note on ESPN, "In the wake of a tumultuous couple of weeks for Pac-12 officials". Close calls that don't go your way and don't get overturned by replay happen almost in every game. You can watch them over and over from different angles on TV. As a fan I can accept that it's nearly impossible to have a perfectly called game that everybody agrees is perfectly called. What I would and I think most fans would like to see is greater accountability from the refs and those supervising them. I know it won't give you the game back but I think fans would like to know that refs who screw up are disciplined in some way and if they screw up enough they are fired. Coaches and Players are out there and all they pay for every mistake in some fashion. Only the refs seem to be immune to being held accountable.
it's the money that ruins the games. Officials have always been good and bad, some even corrupt. It's the money that's changed everything and for the amount of money being spent, they need to use professionals.
Money certainly has changed the game, and TV, and 8-10 camera angles on every play exposing officials. I feel for them, but still think they need to held accountable, and in no sport are they held accountable. It's all hush, hush, behind the scenes. Rarely is an official in any sport held accountable.
In todays Houston Chronicle the spreads for games this weekend have Texas A&M 2 pt favorite over Ole Miss ...ok I get that one. USC over Arizona at Arizona..I forget the spread number, but USC is unranked and gave up a bazzillion yards rushing to Boston College who doesn't have offense nearly as potent at a Rich Rod offense typically is...so how do they see unranked USC as a favorite over top 10 Arizona at home? I'll be watching!!
Todd Gurley suspended indefinitely for NCAA violations. Must have been selling gear or his autograph or maybe meeting with agents and taking gifts advances on contracts..etc. Unless he's !00% cleared very soon he's done as a Heisman Candidate. Too bad, the kid is probably the best football player in the country.
The kids that killed Tennessee in two games are now suspended from two different teams. So... who is gonna be suspended from U Chattanooga next week?
"So... who is gonna be suspended from U Chattanooga next week?" Let's hope there is no Vol killer in the bunch to begin with.....
I think the NCAA got frustrated trying to nail Manziel and it was a compromise so they could put that case behind them and move on.
first time in awhile I haven't rooted for Wazzu to win, but the Irish need some of their teams to start winning and help their strength of schedule. So I'm also going against form and hoping USC can pull the upset at Tucson.
