Late on getting this started...too absorbed with the melt down of the ND Nation over the Duke loss.

We have a Thurs night matchup with Houston and UConn, UConn being the only blemish on the Tom Herman/Houston resume. The loss last year in Storrs. I suspect that UH is a much better team this year and has them at home and revenge on their mind. I won't be shocked if this is a 40 point win for the Cougars, with Herman pouring it on.

The other game on Thurs is Kansas vs Texas Tech. Kansas is again awful and Tech is again a high scoring machine. I expect Tech to also beat them by 40 points or more. Could go to 60 points.

Big games of the day in no particular order.

Texas at Oklahoma State. Charlie Strong is back on the hot seat after that loss to CAL, he vowed to get more involved with the defense. Texas giving up a lot of points and yards. OK State a team that can score a lot of points and put up yards. This could be another shoot out like at CAL. A lot of Texas fans who were fully on the Charlie Strong bandwagon, are now putting one foot back on the ground, and dreaming of Tom Herman.

Miami at Ga.Tech. I'm not sure what to think about this game, Clemson didn't exactly run rough shod over Tech, and Deshaun Watson is a heck of a QB, and their defense did hold Tech in complete check. So is the Miami offense as good as Clemson, is their defense ready for the triple option? I don't know. I'd expect Miami to win though.

Tenn at Georgia. A another big SEC E. game, Vols win here and they have a huge leg up on the SEC Championship game. If they play like they did in the 2nd half vs the Gators then it should be a cake walk as I don't believe the Dawgs have as good a team as UF.

Wisc at Michigan. This is a huge game for both teams. Wisc with their win over MSU last week has jumped up into the playoff contention and Michigan is already there. The losing team while not totally out of it will have to do something big down the road or have Ohio State lose to get back into it. This is really the first big test for Mich, Wisc has already had two of these type of games with LSU and MSU, so in theory they should be more comfortable with a top level opponent. But it's at Mich, so that alone is a big item in the favor of Harbaugh and the Wolvies.

Oklahoma at TCU. This is do or die every game for Bob Stoops and the Sooners. TCU a good solid well coached team, but OU has it's backs against the wall here. Baker Mayfield > Kenny 'Trill' Hill.

Louisville at Clemson. Another game that the winner gets a boost towards the playoffs and the loser see's their chances slide somewhat. Lamar Jackson the current King of college QB's vs Deshaun Watson's last year's King of college QB's. Should be quite a battle. The coaching contrast is also huge, Bobby Petrino the slime ball vs Dabo Sweeny the down home country boy who dances in the clubhouse.

Obviously a lot of other games involving ranked team.

    Ohio State will slaughter Rutgers

    Texas A&M will slaughter So.Carolina

FSU and UNC should be interesting. UNC is a pretty good team.

Neb should handle Lovie Smith and the Illini easily.

KState and WVU is actually a big game for the B12. WVU unranked and undefeated.

    Alabama should slaughter Kentuck

Utah at CAL ... Another game that is important for a conference. Utah is a definite contender for the Pac12 South and undefeated.

Mich State at IU...MSU needs to bounce back from the pasting that Wisc put on them last week at home. IU is just the medicine for their current condition.

Ariz State at USC....like the Irish at 1-3 and looking bad while doing it, USC needs to get a win before the season just spirals out of control. ASU is undefeated with some big time offensive production on their record. 60 points vs Texas Tech and 51 points vs CAL. So Trojans better bring some defense or it'll get ugly fast and Clay Helton could be checking his contract.

Arizona at UCLA ...2 teams that are already 0-1 in conference play and 2-2 overall. Neither team has an esp good win, although UCLA did defeat BYU narrowly and oddly Arizona is the only win for BYU and it was a narrow win. So these teams are probably pretty evenly matched. Both need the win.

Irish vs Syracuse at Metlife Stadium. Krebs will be in attendance, reluctantly! :) Read the Irish topic for the lowdown! :)

Rumors floating around that Les Miles is headed to Ann Arbor for a position on Harbaugh's staff, I have to assume it will be as an Analyst. Interesting to see what happens. Les was an OL coach by trade. Never coached defense although that is what his LSU teams were noted for, defense.

Bobda what are you hearing? I seem to remember both times the UM job came open after Lloyd Carr's retirement that Les name came up but you seemed to indicate that hell would freeze over before Les became the HC at UM.

Just noticed something. Kevin Sumlin has the best winning % of any Aggie Coach since Dana X Bible who coached from 1919 to 1928. Sumlin .750 and Bible .765

And yet he was on the hot seat after all the QB problems since Johnny Football left the house. It's of course currently cooling down quite a bit. :) Wining tends to do that.

The hot seat comments were mostly from the media and didnt have any substance.
If he'd kept his staff as it was in Dec they probably would have been right but otherwise he never was in any real danger of being ousted.

    Terry,

During Harbaugh's press conference, a reporter asked if M would consider hiring Miles and/or Cameron as analysts. His reply was that it was an interesting suggestion.

My guess is that this is internet bs. But, Harbaugh is now king in Ann Arbor so if he actually wanted to do this, he would get what he wants. Don't think any anti Miles clique would have any say in this matter.

If Miles gets back into coaching, I suspect it will be as a head coach at a major university.

It's week 5, here we go!

    Texas at Oklahoma State.
This one could be 76 - 75. Will anyone even put a defense out there?

    Miami at Ga.Tech.
The triple option is a pain and can be dangerous, but I think UM's athletes are up to the challenge.

Tenn at Georgia. Who woulda thought Georgia would be a trap game for Tenn??? ;-)
That kid QB for Uga is actually pretty good... so far his supporting cast has not been. If Chubb isn't 100% I don't see the Dawgs hanging with the Vols.

    Wisc at Michigan.
Intriguing. Before Wiscy's porn star QB took over, I thought they were overrated. But if they are multi-dimensional... this one should be good!

    Oklahoma at TCU.
Battle of the only two teams in the Big Bevo who ever played any semblance of defense... unfortunately, those days are over for both.
I really have no idea who is better. I'm gonna go with OU, just out of spite.

    Louisville at Clemson.
This one is the most interesting to me. As I told Kesley, Petrino is a douchebag, but that doesn't mean he's not a pretty good coach.
I've never bought into Dabo... Guess we'll see who wants to take FSU's mantle of "team to beat" in the ACC.

    Ohio State will slaughter Rutgers
    Yep

    Texas A&M will slaughter So.Carolina
I doubt it. We're a bit dinged up after the Arkansas game, and it is on the road... Should win, but not sure it will be very comfortable.

    FSU vs UNC
I want to say FSU should watch out... but I don't really believe it.
I think Jimbo is also a douche, but I'm not convinced he's that good of a coach. I could win with the penitentiary talent he has...

Neb should handle Lovie Smith and the Illini easily.
    Yep II

KState and WVU is actually a big game for the B12.
That statement makes me smile... :)

    Alabama should slaughter Kentucky
    Yep III

    Utah at CAL ...
Utah always seems to choke one... could this be that one?

    Mich State at IU...
Just the tonic the Sparty's need.

    Ariz State at USC....
Surely USC can take these guys? If not... I doubt Helton is around much longer.

Arizona at UCLA ... I think UCLA is a pretty good team. 30 seconds away from beating Stanford.
Home game... I'll take the Bruins.

Irish vs Syracuse at Metlife Stadium.
I have to believe Kelly will have these guys up, and ready to go.
If not... he's lost the team and things will crater the rest of the way.

Vance Bedford, the Texas DCoord is skating on thin ice right now. I wonder if another bad performance vs OSU will lead to his resignation/firing. He's been with Strong a long time. They coached together at UF and when Strong move to Louisville he brought Vance along as the DCoord and brought him to Texas as well. Vance is a UT graduate. AD sort of forced Charlie's hand on the Offensive side of the ball and helped him lure Sterlin Gilbert from Tulsa. They really didn't want to fire Charlie and I believe they still don't want to see him go, they like him on a personal level. But they want to see a better result on the field. Of course it's only the 4th game and Texas is 2-1...so it's not like the season is lost and recruiting is going well.

Yikes...I just realized I left off the Wash State vs Oregon game....sorry Kes!

This is a big game for both teams. Ducks bring a terrible defense to Pullman and that is not a good thing with Luke Falk and the Pirate on the other sideline. Ducks lose and Mark Helfrich's seat gets warm(er).

Maybe I'm pulling bad data, but I don't think KS has had that high of win % since starting the season at 5-0 last year. At that time with the Aggies he was 33-11, or .750. He is 7-5 since, for an overall record of 40-16, or .714. Looking at Wikipedia, it appears some of the calculations in their table are wrong, or outdated even though the W/L totals appear correct.

    2012 - 11-2 (.846)
    2013 - 9-4 (.692, .769 cum)
    2014 - 8-5 (.615, .718 cum)
    2015 - 8-5 (.615, .692 cum, started 5-0 which raised cum to .750 to start)
    2016 - 4-0 (1.00, .714 cum)

Well, it's another excuse to drink. I'm not sure Wazzu is as good as CU this year. Falk seems to have regressed from last year, even though his OL looks better. He's back to his old ways of holding onto the ball too long, which is great that he wants to make sure he gets the right read, but it is going to get him killed again at some point. I'll pick a Wazzu win, but unless you're a hopeless fan, I wouldn't put money on it.

Oh give me a break. As I told you before:

    - SCAR managed to come from behind in Week 1 to win 13-10 against VANDY
    - SCAR lost to MsSU by 13 in Week 2
    - SCAR held on late to beat ECU in Week 3 20-15
    - SCAR lost to UK 17-10 in Week 4 on 15/30 passing for 177 yards and 35 rushes for 91 yards.

SCAR is averaging barely 50% completion at a clip of 6 yards/attempt. Although this is close to A&M, the Aggies are still averaging over 7 ypa.

SCAR has 123 rushing attempts for 363 yards, with Turner at 157 and Williams at 107 on THE YEAR (3.0 ypa). The Aggies had two with as many yards as Turner LAST GAME. On the year? 153 rushes for 1077 yards (7.0 ypa).

And remember, this comparison is based on SCAR's schedule (Vandy, MsSU, ECU, UK) and the comparatively more difficult A&M schedule (UCLA, PVAM, Auburn, Ark).

I agree that the Aggies are pretty banged up, but this is the perfect opponent to get those guys healthy to prepare for Tenn. Aggies are giving 17 now, which may be high, but the second half shouldn't be uncomfortable. At all.

I dub thee Lou Holtz Jr.

If Utah can't clean up their turnovers, then Cal will take them down. Utah's defense is much better than Cal's, so I'd normally go with Utah here.

    ASU at USC
Is it tradition yet for the USC coach to get fired after destroying a USC team? ASU should score a ton on USC.

    UA at UCLA
Rosen should get back to form in this one.

Tree's getting run over at the moment by Stanford...UW hasn't been stopped yet by Stanford but it's only 13-0 at the start of the 2nd qtr.

Looks like a great Win for the Huskies with still about five minutes to play. This game was won in the trenches, total domination by Washington!
