Not as many big games this coming weekend..but still some important games. Northwestern at Notre Dame...while not a big game, still Irish need to forget the ASU game and hammer these guys, no hangover and just barely beating them need to get back on track and play very well. Texas at Oklahoma State....after maybe their best game of the year in soundly beating WVa, this road trip is dangerous for the Longhorns. OKState is a pretty solid team but has injury issues like a lot of teams this time of year. But it is a road game for the young Longhorns and we need a win to get bowl eligible. The extra practice for the Longhorns is critical for the growth of the team. If we don't win here I don't see us having a prayer vs TCU to finish the season. Ohio State at Minn ... A decent Minn team, and the Buckeyes can't afford to rest on laurels. But I expect Meyer to have them ready and bury the Gophers. South Carolina at Florida....Muschamp with a win gets the Gators to Bowl Eligible. I think he does it. Gamecocks one of the more over rated teams in the preseason. TCU at Kansas...Frogs roll. Miss State at Alabama...Big game of the day, I expect that the Tide will take care of business in a really great game. Maybe not a slugfest like the LSU game, but a very physical game and that is what the Tide is best at...Miss State goes down, but how far? Neb at Wisconsin. ...Huskers need to win out, like all 1 loss teams. This game also has another angle. Who is the best RB in the Heisman Race...Ameer Abdulla or Melvin Gordon. Who ever has the best game is probably going to New York. FSU at Miami....a lot of people think that this Miami team can upset FSU. After watching them at Neb I'm not sure, but then that was a couple of months ago and the team certainly could be coming together at the right time. Still I think FSU is still too much for them. Cincy, Va.Tech and UNC not the same as FSU. Ariz State at Oregon State.... the Sun Devils are now in a position that if they win out and win the Pac12 they will have the resume to be in the playoffs. But they have to beat Oregon State on the road, they should but can't spend much time reading press clippings about the ND game. Missouri at Texas A&M...really only important to A&M fans and SEC East watchers. Missouri is in the drivers seat and if they win out they win the SEC East. Big if. Aggies no doubt want to validate that upset of Auburn. Auburn at Georgia...again only of interest to SEC East fans...Georgia already has 2 losses can not afford to get another SEC loss and keep up with Missouri. Auburn no doubt looking to take out last weeks frustration on somebody. On the coaching carousel... Hoke can get that 6th win this week against a mediocre Maryland team at the Big House and become bowl eligible. Does that save Hoke's job? UM doesn't seem to be in a hurry to name a new AD and you have to figure that no move on the coach will happen before the new AD is in place, so maybe Hoke gets to coach in 2015. Will Muschamp I think has saved his job, and he could easily finish 7-4. Too bad they couldn't have rescheduled that Idaho game or he'd be 8-4. Bob Stoops...there was a thread on InsideTexas talking about OU people wishing that Stoops would move on that he's lost his fire and other than that Sugar Bowl win last year, he's not done a lot...losses at home to KState and a blowout loss to Baylor aren't siting well. But I don't think there will be an opening in Gainesville for him.
Seems trite but 8-4 just has a better ring to it. The bowl committees may not see 7-4 as = to 8-4 but I think Foley does. The thing is.... if Muschamp stays he's still the same stubborn dumbass that could not pull the plug on Jeff Driskel. That still concerns me going forward.
While the early odds favor Ohio State by 14 1/2 points, Minnesota ran all over a decent Iowa team. Bad news for the Buckeyes today in that speedster Dontre Wilson is lost for the season with a broken foot, that occurred Saturday night. He has been our leading all purpose back and receiver. He had surgery this morning.
Don it's that time of the year, things start to pile up...it's tough to keep your team healthy for a full season. Seems like somebody who has been key always gets dinged up. Never seems to happen to the 3rd string guy.
Dave you never did comment on that DT who got on the bus and went home? Is there a story here or just a kid who didn't want to play anymore?
I read the story. He threatened to quit if he didn't start. The coach called him on it, kicked him off the team, and put him on a bus back home. He's done.
The Miami vs FSU betting line is 2.5 points (Miami) which is surprising. Duke Johnson has never played an entire game against FSU without getting injured. Last season he broke his ankle in this game. I'm not sure we are the better team but we are light years from when we played at Nebraska earlier in the season. Defense, offensive line and running backs have us playing our best ball in years. I like the weekends schedule with Neb/Wis, Miss St/Bama and Gamecocks/Gators among others.. By the way thank you Don for your kind words
 I can't believe that I'm going to root for Miami. The enemy of my enemy is my friend... Go Canes!
Ha ha ha ha, the Miami fan support on Skybox is undeniably moving onto new levels this week. There will be no throwing the "U" sign this week, it may cause seizures among several members. Scott I will pay you that fifty bucks for posting the UM banner later... 8)
I see that Urban has commented on Barrett and Miller. He says they will compete for the job next year. But also said that Miller will not even begin throwing till after Spring Drills. That leads me to believe that what Stu said about Miller never throwing another pass might be true. If he can't even begin throwing till after Spring Drills it's hard to imagine him beating out Barrett baring an injury to Barrett as well. If Barrett were struggling and not doing well this year sure, but he is finishing this year getting better every week. As Nick Saban would say (and did say about Dak Prescott) he runs like Tim Tebow but he can pass.
Stirring the pot a bit, but an article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, does not rule out Braxton playing his final year of eligibility elsewhere???
I can't imagine him sitting out his final year as a backup to Barrett if he can play QB. Now as Stu mentioned that he could switch to WR or something like that and play and that would benefit him in giving the NFL a look at what he can do there and possibly get a shot. But if he doesn't play much because Barrett is having another good year, then he'll not be drafted at all.
1. Miss State 2. Oregon 3. FSU 4. TCU ...Go Frogs!! Irish down at #18. Georgia must be getting respect for being an SEC team. They have two losses a blowout to unranked UF and a close loss to unranked So.Carolina. Irish have a close loss to FSU on the road and a bad loss to #6 ranked Ariz State. Oh well, just win and the chips will fall where they will. Neb only has one loss and it's to #12 ranked Mich State and on the road. They are below UGa.
As much as I've respected the SEC in the past as the best conference, this is a year when the media and others are using smoke and mirrors. The top 3 may be worthy of respectable rankings but the others are piggybacking on the conference's past glory. It's not nearly as deep as in recent years.
Quick Detour to College Basketball since today was the early signing day.... Arizona ended up with the #1 ranked class...but shocker to me at least A&M ended up with the #2 class. Only reason I'm shocked I guess is because Billy Kennedy hasn't exactly been burning it up at A&M, he's barely above .500 his first three years in College Station. So what's up with a sudden up tick in recruiting?
