Well more elimination games are at hand this weekend. Notre Dame at Arizona State elimination game both 1 loss teams Ohio State at Michigan State elimination game both 1 loss teams Kansas Sate at TCU elimination game both 1 loss teams Alabama at LSU ... 1 loss Alabama must beat LSU at Death Valley. LSU just mauled the Ole Miss OL and DL and hardly ever threw a pass. Doubt if that works against the Tide. My guess is that's the game the Tide would love to play, rock'em sock'em old time football. Oregon at Utah ...1 loss Oregon at Utah, Oregon looking more and more like a Playoff team. But have to keep winning. Baylor at OU...1 loss Baylor at OU that is dangerous. I would not be surprised to see OU get it together and upset the Bears. OU already has lost at home in a tight game that they should have won vs KState. 2 losses at home haven't happened in a long time for a Stoops coached OU team (maybe never). Texas A&M at Auburn ...after reading Scott's tome I doubt if the Aggies put up much of a fight with a very good Auburn team. Tigers/Plainsmen/War Eagles win easy Virginia at FSU ... no chance for upset. W.Va at Texas...I think the Longhorns can beat these guys. Why is it important? From what I understand the designation of a win as a quality win by the committee is one that is over a top 25 opponent and if that opponent later falls out of the top 25 then you no longer get to count it as a quality win. So if W.Va loses here TCU loses a quality win. That's why the Irish don't have a "quality" win because Stanford who was top 15 when we played them, has dropped out of the top 25. My question is will Miss State be penalized for playing Tenn-Martin this weekend? They are not a FBS team. Ole Miss is out at the moment but they play Presbyterian another FCS team. These FCS games shouldn't be allowed.
-Just win. -We'll see here. If Urban loses this game, I'd say some luster is off the golden boy. -KState could do it. -If LSU tries to run down Alabama's throat, local boy Reggie Ragland is gonna make someone his girlfriend in the LSU backfield. They can't pass, so it looks like Reggie has got plans Saturday night in Death Valley. The LSU fans will be in force for this one. They shook up poor Bo from Ole Miss. He's just a popped collar goober. Those Cajuns actually hate Alabama. -Utah is good enough to beat them. -Baylor vs 'which Stoops team will show up' -Damn it Aggies, you're killing me here. -FSU in a walk. -Texas... maybe?
Big game for my Buckeyes for sure. We will see if we are contenders or pretenders Saturday night. I would feel better if the game was in Columbus, Early odds favor MSU by 3 1/2 points.
Seems a bit harsh considering we're underdogs playing on the road and the man has put together 20 straight regular season B1G wins. (Ties a B1G record).
Stu, that's just Corey being Corey. If OSU should lose to MSU, it won't affect his status as an elite coach one iota.
Allow me to stir the pot. As you know, I am an Urban Meyer fan. But there is no place on earth that values big game victories more than Columbus. I don't care if his regular season record is 95-5. If these five losses are to either Michigan team or to anyone they play in the conference playoffs then his seat will be hot. Ask John Cooper. Or Earle Bruce. 80% or higher win percentages don't count for much along the banks of the Olentangy.
Yeah not a lot of coaches get their Heisman Candidate, experienced Sr. Starter at QB taken away from them a couple of weeks before the opening of the season and have to replace him with a RS Frosh who has never taken a snap in college football and yet still produce a top 15 1 loss team with a shot at the Conf Championship. I'll be rooting for the Buckeyes, for various reasons including it's in the best interest of the Irish!!
I agree Terry..... considering that circumstance the Buckeyes coaching staff has done a terrific job so far. I do think MSU at home will be too much for them to overcome however.
I think it's a tough game for us. I'm more worried about Barrett's knee than anything else though he played through it pretty well the last two games. Neither OSU nor MSU are likely playoff teams...so the big enchilada is getting to battle AJ's boys for the conference title.
Not a week 11 game but Miss State is already thinking Egg Bowl and have new special uniforms. Pretty cool IMHO.
Stu, I think MSU is well placed for a shot at the playoffs, OSU would have to jump a lot of teams and granted MSU would have to have some upsets of teams ahead of them along with winning out. But it could happen, esp if they can beat you guys and look really good doing it. They have had 2 weeks to prepare, so they should be ready willing and able to welcome you to E.Lansing in an unfriendly way. BTW: You haven't said much about Purdue, but I've been watching them and they seem to be making some progress under Hazell, they seemed to play well vs MSU and Minn even though they lost. Hard to say the future is bright or anything but if they finish beating Northwestern and IU that would be discernable progress it would seem.
Terry, not much to say about Purdue...I've been watching the games and other than the CMU game don't have too many complaints. I like Hazell a lot and believe that he will turn the ship around and make us a B1G factor again...but only time will tell. I think that he stayed with Etling too long but apparently the two guys were pretty neck and neck in practice and who knew that Appleby would do so much better in game situations.
Don please say hello to Terry and tell him I wish him well. I miss his humor and opinion on many items on this board, hopefully one day he will decide to share them again.
