Here in Toledo to watch the big games with Gerry, Crazy John, and my Dad... Then headed up to Ann Arbor tonight for the 150th Anniversary University of Michigan Glee Club Fall Concert. After the concert all the alums go up onstage at the big Hill Auditorium and sing the Alma Mater. At 85 my Dad is one of the oldest UM Glee Club alums (and a former officer of the club).
You may be gone already, Stu, but I just wanted to tell you that I hope you have (had) a great time with your Dad. What a nice gift for you to be able to accompany him to such a celebratory event. I'm sure he will be cited for his longevity.
Thanks guys...appreciate it. Gotta run...Bloody Marys at Gerry's sister's house...Kegs and Eggs!
I've seen that Glee Club performance you are talking about. They are very very good. Enjoy it and congrats on the big win today.
Thanks, everybody... We had a great time...Gerry was his usual great host. His sisters and whole family are really neat...they took a genuine interest in my father and Crazy John, fed us well, made us feel right at home. The concert was, as Dave said, just awesome (I had been to the Fall Concert once before, also.) We met the President of the Glee Club Alumni (whom I had been in touch with), and he spent time with Dad, came back to our seats to make sure he didn't need any help getting up on stage at the end of the concert. He introduced Dad to the Director of the Glee Club and also to the current President of the Glee Club and some other fellow alums. Turns out that Dad was an officer (treasurer) in 1947 when they interviewed for a new director...as an officer Dad sat in on the interview and had some say in the decision. The man they picked was Philip Duey who is the Glee Club's longest serving director 1947-69) and who had a tremendous influence on the club...they all remembered him or knew of him and Steve, the guy I had contacted and the President of the Alumni, had been in the club during Mr. Duey's last year. Sorry (boring) but was kind of neat. Oh, yeah...Hill Auditorium where the concert was held is right next door to the Michigan League, where my parents were married in an outdoor wedding in 1949.
