So far no contest, Boise State looks like they will run VaTech out of the stadium. Doubt if that continues, no doubt BSU is hyped to the max and their coaches have used the disrespected underdog theme on them all summer. Yet another statement type game for them.
Maybe a little bit of both....A bunch of mental breakdowns early for VT... Did anyone notice how many Maryland players went down in the game against Navy....It seemed like every play a Terp was cramping up or banged up... RC
It was the only way Maryland defense could catch a break vs the Middies. Unbelievable end to that game though. Can't believe the Navy didn't win, but kudo's to the Terps to being extra tough in the redzone.
BSU gets the ball first in the 2nd half, VaTech needs to force them to punt and if they can score on their 1st possession I believe the ol' MO will have done a 180.
Wow...Boise State pulls it out in the end. The only thing that disappointed me is that we didn't see a Statue of Liberty play, a Fumblerooski, or any other such trickery that BSU is known for!
Their trick this time was to stop shooting themselves in the foot. They had 12 costly penalties and numerous turnovers and blown coverages to keep VTU in the game. When they finally stopped screwing up...they won.
Something that keeps getting missed.. The team that Boise that went unbeaten and beat (previously unbeaten) TCU was one of the youngest teams in the country. They're almost all back this year... and a good many of them will be back the year after that. Hats off to the Hokies for having the sack to play them. It was a helluva game.
All those guys back from a team that destroyed TCU in the Fiesta Bowl is why they were ranked so high in the polls. People (me included) have to start accepting that Boise State is an excellent football team, well coached and motivated. They flew across the country to play in a supposed "neutral site" game with Va.Tech...yeah neutral site right....2400 miles from Boise 250 miles from VaTech....yeah it was real neutral. Both teams had their momemts of "shooting" themselves in the foot, but at crunch time only 1 team sacked it up and won the game. They have Oregon State at home, and the Beavers are a pretty good football team as well, the Rogers boys are still there and I expect OSU to give BSU a good fight. Mostly though once they get into their WAC schedule they will have to sort of fight complacency, late in the season when they are in the middle of things if they have a poor game vs a WAC opponent they might find themselves dropping in the polls while a BCS conference team might not under the same circumstances. I had to laugh at Herbie who couldn't decide what was going on, when VaTech started to generate some offense he decided that BSU was tired on defense like they were about to crater. He also kept talking up Ryan Williams (who is an excellent back) like he'd run for 125 yds when he was averaging 1.9 yds/carry. I don't think he could believe what he was seeing on the field.
Oh yeah any comments on the officiating? I could sort of see the logic of the clipping penalty being picked up on that last BSU punt return. Although I must admit I'd never heard it explained the way that Herbie explained it. There were two calls last night where the hand was critical. The 1st one in the endzone on the BSU TE catch for the TD, replay said his hand was under the ball, and the one on Tyrod Taylor where they said his hand was under the ball and the ball never touched the ground. I don't think I've seen two like that.
I know I do....especially after that last drive for the W. Moore is a legit Heisman candidate. Only thing that could keep Boise out of the NC game is if 2 out of the 4 of Bama/Texas/OU/OSU goes undefeated and I don't see that happening.
If Fresno goes down and beats Ole Miss, that will help the WAC cause a bit. Still, they are haunted by their conference. I don't know about you guys, but I'm actually looking forward to the new look MWC when Boise State, Fresno State and Nevada join the tussle. I know a lot of folks still don't have any respect for them, then again, not a lot of folks are playing them either.
Hey...they wear blue unis with a little orange mixed in and Moore is a lefty who kinda reminds of TT. Since the Gators ain't gonna make it I am now an official Boise for the NC fan. Go Broncos..!
Did you see what I saw? Man......I haven't had a knot in my stomach over a Gators game since....since....well since I witnessed the Bama debacle last December. But at least then I knew that it was true it was just a bad day for an otherwise great team. This time......I am concerned and trying to be a realist. As I say....if they can go 8-3 or possibly even 9-3 with an Outback Bowl in an off year then that's what it has to be. I would hate to see 6-6....a bunch of beatings and a fleabag bowl however.
Never lose faith in your team Dave. No matter how bad the situation gets (you haven't seen bad yet) you must stay on the bandwagon for your Gators. When you have had years like we Vol fans and the Notre Dame Fans have had for many years, then you can start this down in the dumps routine. When you have paid the blues dues, I will quote one of your favorite presidents: I feel your pain.
Hey there comes a time when the fleabag bowl is not such a bad thing. We folks with love for our Florida based football teams have been accustomed to winning games. This is great but unrealistic in many ways when we take for granted we will win them all. The playing field has evened out in so many ways in the quality of teams that can beat you every week. Florida, Miami and FSU do not have the blueprint to winning every championship every year like we thought they had the chance the last 20 years. I for one would love to win an ACC championship game or at the very least win a bowl game. UF has great athletes and will win most games put to them this season it just has to adjust to not having Tebow at the helm who could will his way to a win. Your team has been dominant these last couple of years it just needs to transition. RC
