You read that right, Vanderbilt has fans...and they are angry http://www.anchorofgold.com/2014/1/...in-the-hustler-tennessean-to-thank-vanderbilt
Ouch... going after the kids he recruiting to Vandy... That's not gonna play well no matter if you think it's logical or not.
It'll be interesting to see how that situation pans out. Vandy got a real good defensive guy to come in. I love reading all the speculation from Vandy fans and their list of 'must haves.' It reminds you how new to not sucking they are in the big picture. It's innocent and cute. I've said this forever out here. There's no reason why Vandy can't be a Stanford or Notre Dame type team. People here laugh at the notion, and honestly, if they ever achieved a level higher than they are now some folks would probably keel over. To me, it sends the right message if we can have Southern football in which Vandy and Duke are players on the big stage. As for Franklin, well, it's a long road to somewhere and I'm sure we'll see how he tests on the big stage.
Scott and I had talked about Vandy's collapsing 2014 class. Last week, Vandy had lost 7 commits since Franklin left, which had them down to 12 commits according to Scout (247Sports had them down to 10 commits). Today, two more 3* (McSorley and Haley) jumped boat to PSU. 247Sports has Vandy down to 8 commits with their 2014 recruiting class ranked out of the top 75 (before Franklin left they were in the top 25). Yeah, I don't think many Vandy fans will be forgiving Franklin any time soon.
Kiffen left Tennessee which is an A coaching job for USC which is another A coaching job . On the other hand Franklin left a B coaching job for an A coaching job and who can blame him. As far as recruits who knows who left on their own and who he poached. Unfortunately it's life in the recruiting world. I do agree with Corey about liking it to see Duke and Vandy being more able to play with the bigger football schools.
Yeah it is and I don't see an early signing period for football ever becoming a reality. If it does I can see a lot of kids breaking their LOI if they sign early and there is a coaching staff change....or they have a sick grandma.
Apparently there has been a change in the signing period in that early entries can sign when they enter. At least I believe that is the case. And I am not sure poaching is the right term. A kid can make a verbal commitment but it is their right until they sign to change their mind. The only way I have an objection is when they play games and aren't truthful about the commitment.
I'm just going to put this out there as a place marker going forward for you guys to watch out. Franklin won with the players from the previous staff. He really didn't set the recruiting world on fire. His classes were okay, but they were all filled with project type kids who won't pan out for years. So now he leaves after 3 years and he's bringing a bunch of 'his kids' from this last Vandy class with him to Penn State. How shitty is Penn State when you can swap out 4 or 5 Vandy guys to fill your roster? Back on point, Franklin is fun. He's an absolute nut. He can coach the game. Can he recruit? I'm not so sure and he's going to be in a position at Penn State in which the school recruits itself for the most part. However, he will have Ohio State, Notre Dame, Pitt, Michigan etc trying to take as many of those kids away as they can. At Vandy, he was the consummate poacher. At Penn State, he has something to defend. I'll be interested to see if: 1. He can recruit if he stays. 2. Can he protect that in-state talent.
