I have no doubt that 1) he did hit the kid 2) that the kid and his dad realized that if they didn't go along with the nothing happened story the kid would never play again and have to transfer. 3) The USF president seeing the actions taken at Kansas and Texas Tech decided that he could not allow USF to be the school where the coach can hit a player and get away with it. I think the firing of Mangino, Leach and now Leaveritt sends a message to coaches all over the country. You can't do that sh#it anymore. You can have discipline in your program but you can't do stupid discipline.
Also, if I remember correctly after a heated staff meeting in which Tubberville fired his OCoord, that same coordinator sported a shiner when he left. Unless AD's have short memory's or somehow TT has been able to cover it all up, deep cover. I wouldn't want that Turkey running my program.
The guy that hit his OC was an assistant, the OL coach, not Tubbs. You don't have to believe that, but that's what happened from beyond reliable sources there. As for USF, I thought it was a situation where he reached to grab the kid's shoulder pads and jerk him back but missed high and hit the kid in the neck. I even thought there was an apology over it? Weird. There seems to be more here than we know.
The kid now wants an apology from Leavitt. This has been almost comical...went from he was abused, to he wasn't abused, to now he was abused. I wish they'd make up their minds! Flip Flop
