To tell you the truth I'm not even sure I can watch it. I expect a beat down of epic proportions, and I'm not sure I can take it.

Hey AJ can I call you for counseling and spirit lifting?

Well I guess we can always pray for the upset of the century. You never know. I know I'll watch it.

I'm suprisingly calm watching the Irish be cut to pieces by USC. I'm not even drinking although I should be.

No problem Doc, I took care of both of us. I don't care if Latina is the second coming of Joe Moore. He's gone. The only question is Charlie with him. I can hear the crowd screaming "Give us Barabbas!" Of course the last time that happened, we never heard what happened to the assholes who got that one wrong.

    just ugh

I liked the fight in the kids. Unlike other beat downs, the kids didn't quit. They didn't take USC taunting and didn't turn the other cheek.

At the same time, that is also what makes this beat down so frustrating.

The best way to overhaul this coaching staff is from the top down. Hopefully the next coach will bring in a whole new staff. And that process should take place within the next 48 hours.

    This experiment has failed.

I'm numb now, again completely sober, but numb.

As most think, if Charlie stays he has to make staff changes. He should have made changes after last season, other than adding Tenuta, he should have taken the opportunity to shake up the offensive staff.

The wait is now on, if Charlie is not to be retained I would expect a press conference tomorrow or early in the week. If Charlie is to be retained I would expect that the Irish will announce they have accepted the Houston Bowl bid and that Charlie will continue as coach.

Interestingly the Houston Bowl, which at this time has no participants has supposedly sold 60K worth of tickets. A Rice vs ND game would be a sellout. I fear Rice.

No way this team should accept a bowl bid, especially with Weis as coach. Another month of practice under this regime will only cause more harm.

no way, no how. you take the bowl game.

The day and age of 'passing up a bowl game' is long gone.

You have limited practice days. You have limited everything. You take it.

The last time ND snubbed the second tier bowls, it was a bad thing in the long run.

We need to stop making the same mistakes over and over.

Some have said that they hope the next coach retains Corwin Brown.

Now Corwin Brown is a great recruiter, but he's symptomatic of what is wrong with the Charlie Weis regime. Once Weis decided to fire Minter, he should have gone looking for a college DCoord with a strong resume and a lot of experience coaching college kids. Instead he goes to the "Tree" and gets a young NFL DB coach from the Jets who's never been a DCoord, has virtually no experience in college football as a coach. Now he's dynamic, no doubt a hard worker and seemed to be able to connect with young high school kids on the recruiting trail. But last years defense was bad at best, not as bad as the offense but bad. OK so maybe Weis see's that Corwin has no clue and grabs Tenuata to help on Defense, a good move theoretically. Defense is better in spurts but for all the blitzing can't get to the QB all season and in the big games in the 2nd half of the season collapsed at critical times.

If they bring in a new coach the whole staff has to go, nobody from this staff should be retained.

Corey we have to pass up the bowl bid. After all we are ND and we are "arrogant." If you listen to the average arrogant ND fan we'd be better off not practicing for the next 3 weeks and just sit on our asses and watching the Jets play.

Practice what? More of this sloppy, unmotivated ********? If you can get a new coach and staff in here then fine, go to a bowl.

This team just played their 12th game and they still don't know how to block and tackle.

You don't get it George do you?

Every team in the NCAA takes the opportunity to go to any bowl, some schools even buy their way into bowls by guaranteeing a certain level of ticket sales. The extra practice time is important, just going to a bowl is important.

Here in Texas we have a very generous High School playoff system that lets the top 3 finishers in each district go to the playoffs, sometimes in a bad district the 3rd place team isn't even .500 but they still go and the players want to go and say they went to the playoffs.

Our recruiting competition would and will go to bowls at 6-6, and if we don't they use that against us in recruiting. You hear it all the time from college players how they are looking forward to the bowl game, and mostly they aren't talking about the BCS bowls. They are talking about the lower rungs of the bowl system.

Hey great recruiting slogan, "we turn down bowls when we suck becuse we are ND". Got any other recruiting gems? How about "though we lose every bowl, we don't take you losers to every bowl." or "If you suck in New Jersey, you must suck in El Paso." Or how about "xxxx all the bowls, we're only going if we feel like it."

Oh, what the hell. I can take one more ass kicking if you guys can. Show the recruits how defeat builds character.

Those bowls are going to be played and at the lower levels of the bowl system it's mostly mediocre to bad teams that some how stumbled to 6 or 7 wins. When it comes around to recruiting, they proudly say how they've been to a bowl game for X straight years.

BTW the kids for the most part actually like going to a bowl. I can tell you for sure that even though you and Krebs apparently will look down your noses at the Irish comming to the Texas bowl in Houston. The Irish as a team will have a great time, get some cool team gifts, and be glad they came to the Texas bowl. Who knows maybe they some how get a win.

If coaches, teams and schools all over the US had your attitude and Krebs attitude there'd be a whole lot of ...play a district playoff game??? screw it we suck why should we play, go to the Liberty Bowl screw it it's a lousy bowl and we aren't any good we don't want to play anymore.

Or even better when some basketball team with a 16-15 record ends up with a bid to the NCAA or NIT tournament..they should say screw it we suck why should we endure a beatdown by UNC...we aren't going.

I'm not dismissing our suckatude George, I'm just saying that passing on the bowl game is a bad thing. The kids are limited by the NCAA in terms of how many practices they have.

I remember when we passed on a bowl game before, it came back to bite us in the rear and we lamented that fact well into the next season.

Going to a bowl also allows ND to regain some of those players they lost during the year. I'd argue that our offense looked a helluva lot different with Floyd then it did without.

It's a bottom line business, as Charlie is finding out for real for the first time, and the bottom line is... Going to a sh*t bowl is a win-win for us. If we lose, we already suck and we have a long bowl losing streak. If we win, by some act of God, we got off the bowl snide and start 09's campaign on a positive note. And again, I still can't possibly relay the importance of the additional practice time. Not to mention that every knob polisher like Schiano will be telling ND recruits 'this is how your school rewards your young kids building a new programs.. you bust your rear and they deny something you earned.'

You and I can see how crazy that statement is, but I assure you.. it will be said and it will work.
