    Mike Riley tells USC to stuff it and signs a 3 yr extension with Or. St. Maybe USC is aiming too high on their coaching choice.LOL Buckle up boys, this could be a real circus.

    Notice how the media treats this much differently than the ND coaching change. :D

    I saw someplace that the Jags are giving Del Rio permission to talk to USC, thinking is that if he takes the USC job they can hire an NFL assistant on the cheap and come out better financially.

    Whether he stays or goes, he ends up in LA eventually...

    Aquila, does your comment mean that there is talk of the Jags relocating to LA?

    One thing for sure they need out of Jacksonville, when the Texans played them there this year it looked like a ghost town in the stands.

    Lane Kiffin is going to be a recruiting nightmare for us in So. Cal. He's got Pete's energy and drive and he's younger and hipper.

    I would say Petey did pretty damned good in recruiting himself.

    I don't think you get it.

    Peetey was part of the overall process. There was a slight decline in recruiting and production as those assistants dropped off one by one. Try reading any USC boards, especially older posts and you will see they've been saying this for years. Peetey was the front man, but he had his flaws that included his gigantic ego that ran off Norm Chow.

    The guys who were the true core of that recruiting machine that launched that decade long streak all just returned to Los Angeles.

    I am not a very happy camper.

    I am going to say I agree with you on that one.

    I still have doubts about Kiffin as a head coach but as the leader of that recruiting trio he has value.

    Without a doubt. I think he is still very much learning on the job as a head coach and will make his mistakes. I think he tries to mask that by bringing aboard as many high profile, top-flight assistants to surround him that he can legally (or illegally) jam on a staff.

    Contrast that with say... Saban who seemingly can go through assistants like water but maintains his level of success.

    If Chow jumps ship officially, I'm going to be pissed. (moreso than I am now)

    My friends are annoyed... they heard that Dat Nguyen has been hired to be the LB coach at USC.

    We wanted him back at A&M!!!

    kiffin

    <r>We'll see how his all shakes out a few months from now after the NCAA does their visitation of the Reggie Bush, Mayo and J. McKnight situations. <br/>
    <br/>
    One thing for sure we can expect lots of fireworks coming from LA for the next few years with this loose cannon out there. I'm sure he'll probably get enough rope to hang himself before it's all over. <br/>
    <br/>
    As far as recruiting goes, USC always has an advantage there no matter who is the coach. If I know anything after the past few years at ND it's that the talent will get you so only so far. You need a good COLLEGE coach to <B><s></s>develop<e></e></B> the talent. <br/>
    <br/>
    The question is can he do anything with the talent. We'll see..... <E>8)</E></r>

    Tim,

    What bothers me is that these are the guys who recruited and developed the talent. Carroll got worse the further away from these guys he got.

    Kiffen still is inexperienced and less than impressive as a Head Coach. Can just anyone go to USC and dominate?

    I expect Ted Tollner, Larry Smith and Paul Hackett would all say "no".
