Coach Meyer is stepping down after the Rose Bowl. A press conference will be held later this afternoon. Ryan Day will be the new head coach. This is not a surprise to me and I wish him and his family well!

No surprise to anybody. Do you think that Ryan Day staying on as head coach will help prevent a bunch of recruiting defections?

Don, I asked earlier if there was something wrong with Coach Meyer. It definitely seemed to me that he was not well about halfway through the season.

Kp, no question that he has been battling severe headaches, etc. but I personally did not realize it was so serious. Probably a good decision on his part for himself and family!

Good question Stu, I certainly have my concerns. Coach Day is going to be forced to do a good sales job with recruits and their families. No doubt other programs will be getting their licks in as well.

I hope he's able to regain his health and enjoys his retirement. He certainly was a great coach and in a lot of ways revolutionized college football with his offense and the way he went about recruiting.

About Ryan Day, he of course could be another in a pretty long line of excellent hires by Ohio State. But unlike the previous hires his resume' is pretty thin. It does seem a bit risky.

How do Buckeye fans feel about him being elevated to the HC position?

Terry, I think most of the fans will be in favor of his elevation to head coach. Of course, I have no basis for that comment other than what I perceive. He certainly did a great job during Urban's suspension (three games)

I think it's a good idea to maintain the current machinery (for lack of a better word or for lack of my ability to come up with one). Whether it works out or not is yet to be determined and a lot depends on the recruits currently being wooed. A major regime change risks a lot of chaos. For now I vote for stability.

I agree that program continuity with Day is the best way to keep BT off the ledge..

One of the best in-game coaches I've ever seen. King of making the correct adjustments

Probably too immersed in detail to see problems occurring around him and thought he could designate others to handle when it should have been him. I think that is what got him jammed up at his last two stops.

Won-Loss percentage is off the hook good.

Obviously is laboring this year and needs to take care of himself.

I had a feeling he was retiring when the broadcast of the Michigan game showed his wife crying during Urban's post game interview ( although a lot of Michigan fans were doing the same thing).

Clearly one of the great coaches of all time in college football. When he was hired by OSU, I remember posting that I did not think he would coach for a decade since his intensity and extraordinary competiveness combined with the demands placed on a head coach at a university with a long history of success in football would lead to further health issues.

He had an incredible run at OSU and his presence led to an overall improvement in the level of play in the B10 as other universities had no other choice but to further invest in their programs to try and compete with the Buckeyes albeit unsuccessfully. I hope that with rest, he is able to get back to good health and that if the return to coaching bug bites him again, he chooses a school that does not play Michigan every year.

Well Urban has proved that anywhere he goes he is a big time winner. At Bowling Green, at Utah, at Fla, and now at Ohio State.

I can't imagine that he can do anymore at USC than he's done at Ohio State where he won 90% of his games.

Or win the same two national titles that he did at Florida.....

but I would bet he would have USC playing at an elite level again in no time..

Yep...this time next year USC gets rid of Helton and signs Meyers to his retirement contract....5 years 100 mil. That should help the headaches.
