And it was appropriate that we did it with balance. Blocked punt for a TD, and interception at the end that stopped the last Penn State drive and was returned for a TD. Enough offense but with a lot of mistakes. Meyer's record as a Gator 65- 16 in 10 years Appeared in 3 SEC Championship games and won 2 Won two National Championships Had a positive influence on about 200 Gator football players Highest graduation rate ever for Gator Football He will be missed but the Gators will move forward under the leadership of our new coach Will Muschamp.
Pretty good game Bill. I had picked the Gators, but thought Penn State put up a good ball game. Two key interceptions did them in for sure. Congratulations on the win and a nice victory for Meyer. A loss would not have been good, in that that is what the fans would have remembered, not the good times!
Great...great game and day experienced with my sons down at Raymond James Stadium today. It was a very fun experience. That last int. pick six was run directly back at where we were sitting and it was absolute fun to watch as a Gator fan. I had already decided that it was a great day anyway even if we lost but to win also was such a bonus. The stadium seemed half full of PSU fans as there are many people in the Tampa area it seems from Pa. and they came out in droves. I salute Joe Pa and his team's effort.
Congrats to Florida. Looks like Florida, Bama, and Mississippi State evened the score for the SEC at 3 - 3. I guess it is left up to Arkansas, LSU, Kentucky, and Auburn to determine how well we finish.
I honestly thought the Big 10 might do better this year than they have done so far......2-5 is surprising. In a pool I'm in I did pick NW and Michigan but wrong on both and right on Fla and Bama. The SEC has tough match-ups down the stretch. We'll see.
You gotta be kidding me...I picked the B10 to go 2-6 and it was a bit of a stretch to go that far. I will say that I thought Wisconsin was one of our better bets. I thought MSU would show up a little better, but 'Bama is now healthy and showing what should have been, had they been healthy. MSU squeeked through a couple of their games...even Purdue should have beaten them...they really aren't that good. One of those lucky seasons where things bounced their way...until they ran into the buzzsaw. Michigan, with all due respect to my friend Bobda....just....plain....sucks. I sat through that game with Crazy John, and spent the whole time trying to cheer him up...your team isn't that bad...yada, yada, yada....and it just kept getting worse. I "picked" tOSU to come through, but believe me, I'm not that confident.
Mo, I thought Alabama would wax State given the huge disparity in talent. State overachieved this year to Dantonio's credit but when Alabama is hitting on all cylinders, they are great and they were great on Saturday. I thought the M/MSU game would be close with Michigan winning and that Wisconsin would beat TCU even though TCU was favored. Given Persa's injury, I did not think NW could beat TT since Persa was NW's entire offense and thought Ill, PSU, and Iowa would lose. So, right now, I guess Ron Zook is one of the few bright lights is an otherwise dismal B10 bowl season<G>. To be frank, at this point, there is only one B10 team right now that has the resources and tradition to field a top echelon team on a yearly basis and that is Ohio State. PSU and M had that capability but PSU's program, just like FSU under Bowden in his last years, will underperform until Joe Pa leaves and Michigan is now in complete meltdown stage. Wis, Iowa, and MSU have solid programs but have not shown the ability to maintain a consistent level of excellence on a yearly basis. On the plus side, Nebraska will certainly bring some needed spark to the league as Penn State did when it came to the B10. To some degree, you can probably track the B10 fortunes to the shift in population and wealth in the country. People and capital have moved south and west and it seems that a lot of good football has moved there, too.
Extremely good analysis Bobda. Well done. I can't add much to that as I agree with everything you said there. I still think UM has the name and tradition and yes.....if the auto industry doesn't completely disappear the resources to resurrect the program. I do not think RR is going to be the one though although I once did and I think it is high time he is out of there. It's a great program....a great job and the right guy can do well. Penn St is in the same boat but they need someone who can mold a champion with some newfound enthusiasm. I don't see how an 84 year old white guy can convince a 17 year old black male oblivious to CFB history that he should sign with Penn St to be honest.
Let's face it, the BT and SEC play under different rules. In the past 4 years the average number of players signed by SEC teams is 103. (and not all schools in the conference oversign like the top dog Alabama) At the same time the average number of recruits signed by the BT is 86. That's 20% more recruits to evaluate. Just as buying the most tickets gives you the best chance to win a raffle, having the most recruits to evaluate give you the best chance of assembling a talent rich team. U of M's has an endowment fund that allowed it to spend $226 million on recent renovations of the stadium. If they struggle on the field it will not be for lack of resources.
Oh brother? Then how do you explain Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida State, USC? Maybe, just maybe the pendulum has swung for the time being and the SEC is up and the Big 10 is not. Don't get me wrong for now I think the SEC is on top right now, but you can be assured that this is not uncontested. If Oregon wins next week, what will the excuse be? Pacific Ocean air gives them an edge?
Here's a breakdown on the signings of the SEC and BT teams that are matched this year. Code: If you really want to gawk at some discrepancies, let's take a look at the four bowl games involving both the Big Ten and the SEC: Capital One Bowl Alabama (113) vs Michigan State (88) Alabama +25, Michigan State -25 Gator Bowl Mississippi State (113) vs Michigan (93) Mississippi State +20, Michigan -20 Outback Bowl Florida (93) vs Penn State (82) Florida +11, Penn State -11 Sugar Bowl Arkansas (109) vs Ohio State (79) Arkansas +30, Ohio State -30 The SEC teams have signed 86 more players over the last four seasons than the Big Ten has. Basically, each of these SEC teams has an entire extra recruiting class to sift through in order to find the talent enough to beat their opponents. The Big Ten, to their detriment, chooses not to engage in such cutthroatery, and yes, it is to their detriment. Their record against the SEC is even in bowl games of late, but imagine if they had 22 extra players to pore through per team. Do you really think they wouldn't have made the most of their “do-overs”? But it's to the players' benefit that the Big Ten doesn't oversign, and humanity's as well. There is at least one conference out there that remains convinced (for the most part) that they are comprised of academic institutions, regardless of the money that pours in via their football programs. Meanwhile, if a player fails to meet the coach's expectations in the SEC, they are deemed to have no further value and pushed out. That's not college football—that's professional football. It's the biggest difference between the SEC and the Big Ten right now and it will be until the NCAA finally steps in and enforces their pretend rules—or changes them altogether. Just like they did with Cameron Newton.

ouch, that's damning... Although, I do happen to buy into Terry's theory that we have better weed out west. Just sayin. Oh, and we play a lil football too.
So if OSU wins tonight? What does that mean? If Oregon wins next week what does that mean? You know, you can explain losing a lot of ways, but sometimes the other guy is just better. If my team used to be on top and now is not, I would probably be grasping at explanations that don't mean 3h4t too.
So if OSU and Oregon win it means that they played better and or were better coached and they succeeded without treating players as some sort of disposable meat. And it means that the scumbags don't always win and show their disdain for those that have some respect for those that commit to their programs. :x
That's quite a leap you make from one set of numbers in a table. Scumbags? Ah this discussion is over for me. You just moved it into another realm. This is why I stay out of the other forum. 8)
