Joel, Glad to hear from you. You've been quiet lately. Are you also thanking the Texas Rangers for sending Eric Gagne to the Sox? What a gigantic disappointment! He's actually a liability when he takes the mound.
Good morning, Sid. If I never see GAGME in a Red Sox uniform it will be too soon! Theo should package him up and send him back to the national league as soon as possible. The man cannot handle the pressure of the American League! I dont know why they kept him on the playoff roster instead of Tavares!
There's still that little matter of the ALCS, which is far from ovah (to use a Jifism). Oddly enough, if the Sox and Rox do advance to face each other, Gagne could be effective. The question is, would Tito trust him?
Thank you, thank you. I believe I was the lone voice in the wilderness back in the day who objected to Gagne being entitled the "best reliever of all time". Turns out he was the best for one year.
You were not the only one: Jack and I chimed in on the subject in favor of Mariano. The problem, George, is that there was another debate going on at that time occupying Jack's and my energies-whether then Dodger Adrian Beltre was the best third basemen is baseball. Yo' Adrain did a crash and burn once he reached the AL. I think I see a pattern. Dodger player does something good...Dodger fan wants said player enshrined ASAP in Cooperstown..Dodger gets traded to AL and during the remainder of his career, baseball fans search for his picture on the back of milk cartons.
I expect to see his name on the 'roid list if it comes out. The classic patterns like Giambi, Bonds, McGwire, Brady Anderson, Dykstra etc etc. namely big size followed by out of this world numbers followed by an endless number of nagging and recurring injuries followed by oblivion. Gagne is on the brink of the latter. If they publish these names, and as consumers, we have the right to know, I think we are all in for a shock.
