I'm hoping either Phil, Bubba or Jordan win this week!

I watched the preview on the Golf Channel and I've never seen a US Open course look like this, brown edges to the fariways, no ankle deep rough and in fact the rough looks like a poorly maintained muny course to me. But Ben Crenshaw whose firm redesigned it a couple of years ago said his goal was to return to the original Donald Ross design and setup. They were talking about a PGA offical walking with each group this year, specifically mentioned that situation with Dustin Johnson at Whistling Straits a few years ago and I can see why, some of those fairway bunkers don't look all that well defined.

Halfway through the opening round in what is described as a "soft" course. Leader is at -3 and birdies are scarce. 7,500 yds. at par 70 with turtle back greens is enough of a test without ankle deep rough. Can Phil complete the major slam before arthritis, age, or the FBI catch up with him? Is Rory better without her? Can Stevie Williams bag another major with Adam? Has Dustin figured out where he can and can't ground his club?
Laugh every time at the commercial with Arnie and Eastwood. :D

Well on a great day for golf in the Sand Hills of North Carolina...My nephew Matt Van Zandt won his qualifier for the Southern Amateur which will be played Jul 14-16 at a club in Tenn called The Honors Course at Ooltewah TN.

He's now the 6th ranked Amateur in the State of Texas.

Wow! That's a big time ranking in any state, much less the giant state of Texas. Congratulations to your nephew.

It's been a long time since I've played with him, he and I don't play the same game! :)

Martin Kaymer is tearing it up at Pinehurst #2...he's -8 now. 6 shot lead.

Either (a) they (usga) didn't make the course tough enough or
    (b) The old girl just isn't the course she used to be because
    (c) NOBODY should be -8 in the 2nd round of a u.s. open...it's supposed to be the most brutal test of golf skills known to man...

Then again Kaymer is a hell of a golfer....and tiger did post a -13 at pebble one year....closest to him was Els at +2....

But there's others in the field in red numbers.....the U.S. Open needs to be feared...not handled....

-9 now. Bubba +7...I'm disappointed in Bubba. I thought he'd do well here.

What a nightmare for the network that is broadcasting this. First, no Tiger which probably eliminated at leasr a third of the audience in advance and then a runaway. Hope Johnny Miller knows some magic tricks or stand-up .

funny story. We're at a Mexican restaurant here having lunch and watching the Costa Rica-Uruguay game. One of the country club cracker locals walks in and demands that they turn one of the big screens on to the US Open.

The restaurant literally stopped. Even my son started bitching at the guy. The owners gave him his wish and the restaurant literally shifted to face the other direction.

So who is winning this thing, that German kid?

Not over but it'll take a natural disaster to keep Kaymer from winning the US Open.

Only one person took advantage of the "friendly" conditions on Thurs. and Fri. and he's winning in a cakewalk. I'm guessing that the ratings for today are going to be really low.

Not one of the more exciting US Opens, but Kaymer played four superb rounds of golf. Even with a large lead, he was still aggressive and made things look relatively easy.

Welcome to the Big Time Michele Wei!! That was a pretty gutty finish after you mucked up the 16th!! First to make the 5ft comeback and then to drain the birdie on #17 for the kill shot.

She's only 24 so for all the wandering around she has done in not living up to the hype, she is just really starting her career. You have to wonder what she might have accomplished if her parents hadn't decided that she was good enough to play with the men and wasted a few years trying to get that going rather than working on winning against competition she could handle. But as I said she's still so young she could still become the dominant woman in golf history...of course Stacey Lewis might have something to say about that. :)

How about Julie Inkster, the old gal put on a nice show. Too bad there isn't a Champions Tour for women over 50.

The kid to watch is that Stephanie Meadow, for her first Pro Tourney she did quite well. As for Lucy Li, she looked every bit the part of a 11 y/o but she had a pretty mature game. I hope her parents don't go overboard with her and let her game develope as she grows. That Driver looked bigger than her.
