Wow...Abby didn't have to leave her feet for that one...Just hammered it home!!! Alright lets finish them off now!
 Ugh. This was a classic example of why they play the games. The American women were much better athletes and better players too. Japan had never beaten them and the American ladies had never missed a penalty kick...ever. Congratz to the Japanese team which never rattled and found a way to win.
You just knew when the U S didn't score after all those chances in the first half that it just wasn't their day.
I was happy for Japan... As a passionate hater of Title IX... I'd like to once again point out that Japan practices at a YMCA looking facility that was destroyed in the disaster.. No forced equality... no mega million dollar budgets.. no throwing entire men's sports under the bus... I love to see sports played by (and won) people who love the game passionately.. We didn't finish.. we didn't play with heart and we faded at the end. We're like Brazil's men's team... without the earned onfield reputation.. or dominant legacy of titles.
Feel better, Corey? After that uncalled-for denigration of the women's effort? Sometimes you talk like the idiot kid you were oh those many years ago. I usually let it pass but not this time. You certainly are entitled to your opinion, and I am just as entitled to let you know what a pile of crap it is.
No, not really Sid. I've seen lives and families destroyed because of gender equity and Title IX. In fact, I'd put the number well into the triple digits. We force feed tons and tons of money into something while denying others opportunity. We shove it down the throats of the American consumer on television and we're all told that we are some sort of underdog story. Well excuse this idiot Sid, but kindly tell me exactly what other nation has poured the kind of resources into something that we have? For what? Last second goals against first or second generation footballers from other nations? I get fully that other nations will catch on faster due to their love of the sport (Brazil, France, Germany etc) but even they pale in comparison to the dedication over time that we've pumped into this... and all the while, they've not scuttled any families (or entire sports in some cases). One also can't rule out the Generalisimo factor.. Your North Koreas and what not. In fact, I'd say those athlete factories are the closest thing that compare to what we have in the United States for women's sports. It's times like this I don't mind standing alone, but I sure do miss another idiotic asshole in Tod Jeffers. He too would take you to task over this dog and pony show. Then again, maybe we simply knew/know more people who were affected by the cost of this investment? Surely, you've considered that? No sir, our ROI on this venture is pure ****. So wear your pink ribbon headbands all you want and wax poetic about the underdog American women in sports but just so long as you understand.. it's all hype and marketing. If the Mishiwaka Cavemen dumped the Fightin Irish on an October Saturday, you'd be jumping right out of your trousers (*disclaimer, the Ty years are not eligible for participation in this*).. I'm not angry over the women's team losing. If you think that for a second, you're sorely mistaken and missing the point. I was HAPPY TO SEE THEM LOSE especially to a team without a proper training facility to start with (let alone what was left after the tragedy). Nah, I'm happy to see the sandlot kids beat the New York Yankees... even if it's just for a day.. Carry on, I'll be over here in my idiocy watching you justify lighting money on fire and dictating to communities how they should live their lives and spend their resources.
I still say the US team went into a "prevent" mode after the first goal and changed the whole game dynamic. 8)
They missed those 6 or 8 easy shots early in the game. The Broadcasters ( really bad at that) called it early in the game.
I want it on record that I have apologized to Corey via email for my post of July 17. I've been bothered by it and needed to get it off my chest. IMO, it was not in the spirit of what the Skybox stands for. I've always respected Corey's passion and intelligence, and I value my friendship with him. Although I disagreed with him, I could have chosen a more respectful and civil way to reply to his post.
