Would you believe that junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen, the most accurate and perhaps greatest pure passer in Notre Dame history, has a career record of 16-17 as a starter?

3 Consecutive games Notre Dame’s receiving tandem of Golden Tate and Michael Floyd eclipsed 100 yards receiving apiece, with Tate at 123 and Floyd 104. The Irish ended up losing all three contests, to Navy, Pitt and UConn. The Irish are 0-5 overall in games where Tate and Floyd both have more than 100 yards receiving.

Also, I believe the record (win loss) of Charlie when he out rushes his opponent is just profane. It should have shown him long ago the importance of running the ball..

How about that Weis has the worst home record amongst ND coaches since 1964 when Ara took over. Worse than Ty, Davie, and even Faust.

Oh don't get me wrong, Charlie's a gonner.. I also believe that both Ty and Davie inherited much better teams than Charlie did. Neither had to dig out of the hole he did. He should get some credit.

Honestly, if you look at ND teams throughout the modern era.. Any Irish coach is as good as his defensive line. Fail recruiting great Dlinemen and you fail as HC. If I'm the next ND HC, priorities 1, 2 and 3 for me would be 5-star AA defensive line talent.

Charlie did a lot of good things, including representing the University and leading the country in graduating his players...far above the pathetic 49% grad rate at Texas...but Mack is wining 10 games or more every year so while everybody would like to have a bigger number they don't want to sacrafice the on the field success to compete with ND for grad rates.

Charlie worked his tail off, last year most of us would have taken the year off to get our knees fixed but Charlie coached through the pain. He recruited very well, not as well on defense as he did on offense but still overall very well and going into the USC game he had the situation poised to have easy a top 5 class and had he won out he'd might have pulled in a #1 class (again).

But in the end the numbers are overwhelming after 5 years that he's just not an elite college head coach.

Apparently our #1 verbal de-committed today. Said he would probably end up at Florida.

In addition Charlie announced that he can't envision any scenario where he would resign.

Chris Martin has been doing that since last summer. He transfered to several different schools but never actually enrolled and finally ended up some place in Colorado. He could easily waffle some more before it's all over.

As far as Charlie resigning, why would he answer that question any other way at this point. Assuming he's not lying, ala Nick Saban's "I will not be the coach at Alabama"...he owes it to his family to make the best possible settlement to his contract. If he resigns before Swarbrick offers him a settlement then he's negotiating from a weak position. I wouldn't be suprised if he plays hardball on the terms, and never actually resigns (says the words) but still will not be the coach next year.

    If...

<t>One is honest it was iffy he comes even if the team had shown up this year and CW was retained. Once he started waffling early in the year I wrote him off. He won't be the last either but the important thing is JS gets the hire right.</t>

I saw some posts on another site discussing a rumor that Swarbrick has applied to replace Miles Brand as head of the NCAA. Probably nothing to it but the NCAA is headquartered in Indy where he's from. If he is hoping to jump ship, he can leave the coaching problem for someone else.

I always will agree that running the ball well combined with a good run defense will garner you more wins in the college game than anything else.
