Troy has taken advantage of his opportunity to start - Niners have won two in a row with Troy under center and yesterday threw for over 350, led come from behind drive at the end of the game and the winning drive in OT. After his misfortune in Baltimore, I'm happy for him. Well done Troy.... Looks like Singletary has found his guy.....
Good for him, I never gave him a chance at being a starter in the NFL. Of course I never gave Colt McCoy a chance as a NFL starter either. Shows you what I know!
I'm thinking that Dane Crist might be a good pick by the Lions to follow Stafford. Has a great injury prone history and when I saw the Lions QB Hill throw a Hail Mary nearly into the stands at the end of the game yesterday, I immediately thought of Crist. He's got all the tickets.
How 'bout Colt! At least for now, they LOVE him in Cleveland. Good for him... Re: Smith, anybody that watched him play never questioned his arm or his decision-making ability. It was always size, size, size.....I think Drew Brees has shown that if you're good, you're good....and can overcome alot.....I'm just glad he's getting a shot and has enjoyed some success.
I think if Colt makes it over the long haul in the NFL it will be because of his accuracy. It is the same reason Brady Quinn is not making it in the NFL. Brady has size and he can throw it a mile, but he lacks the accuracy that you need to be a successful NFL QB.
Mobility as well....I'm not suggesting you need to be a running threat ala Vick, but you do need to have ability to avoid the rush and keep plays alive while continuing to look downfield. Colt's got it and Smith brings that to the table as well, Brady not so much.....not unlike Todd Boeckmann. Big, strong, smart kid with a big arm.....but a veritable sitting duck in the pocket bouncing from practice squad to practice squad. I don't think he's even in the league anymore....
Another necessity is a solid O-Line. Small QBs already have trouble seeing over the line. penetration makes it that much more difficult.
