That's too bad. I liked Tressel. I wonder what the players who stayed are thinking now? Could this help NEBRASKA? A LOOK AT THE POSSIBLE FUTURE
I guess this was inevitable and with the upcoming NCAA sanctions, the university finally made the right decision. He was a good and caring coach, but the coverup was just too much.
Sad end to a great career. I have no doubt that he'll bounce back and find a way to serve his fellow man going forward.
Could this help Nebraska? I Dunno. Depends on how good your new coach is after Bo moves to Columbus.
To me this is somewhat similar to the position that Michigan found themselves in when Mo went on his restaurant rampage, they really had few options other than name Lloyd Carr the interim coach...turned out pretty well for them. Will Luke Fickell have the same good fortune ? Of course the rumours of Urban Meyer taking over for 2012 are rampant. I'm sure Urban will deny them, but the only way they go away is if Fickell has an excellent 1st year and they award him the job.
A sad day.....the man was tried and convicted in the harsh, but horribly less than objective glare of the press and the heat became more than many could bear.....we shall take our medicine, suck it up and move on. I don't think it unreasonable, given the less than balanced viewpoints we've all been subject to on this matter most recently, to provide another informed perspective of the man .....
I don't see Tressel as a conniving, evil guy and so I can tend to agree with what White is saying about JT. That said.....Galen Hall was also a helluva nice guy from all accounts I have read about him and he and the Gators were thrown under the NCAA bus for much less. The NCAA is an authoritarian.....sometimes unfair entity. However.....there is some speculation about Terrelle Pryor and car etc. that could really be damaging I believe if the NCAA thinks it is true. Notice I said "thinks" because it seems as if they don't need to show proof sometimes to lower the hammer on a program if they want to and other times when the evidence stares them in the face ( Cam Newton ) they just turn and look away.
Believe me as a Gator who went thru so much turmoil in the 80's I know exactly where you are coming from.
Supposedly Pryor is now driving a brand new 350Z, registered of course to his mother. Real smart move..geez with all the stink going on don't you think he's spend his last year driving a beat up old Pontiac or something like that? If it's true it almost seems like he's giving the NcAA the finger and challenging them to find something wrong with him driving a brand new sports car.
http://eye-on-collegefootball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/29678272 "Given" to his mamma....? I'll bet Michigan fans are pretty happy right now that they didn't land Pryor in the war with OSU over his signing. Makes you wonder why he did go with OSU when RR was offering a spread offense very suited to his skills.
Well I think there were two reasons. 1. RR was just starting at UM and it was clear that he had to completely rebuild the system, no doubt Pryor did not want to be part of a rebuilding project. 2. Pryor wanted to go to the NFL, none of RR's QB's ever made it to the NFL even Pat White his greatest QB had to go as a WR and didn't make it. Ohio State's offense while not a Pro Style, no doubt was more attractive to him in terms of developing as a QB the NFL would be interested in drafting.
Not trying to be nasty about it Terry but with so much NCAA trouble swirling around TP right now I think that while your "official" reasons are legit the recent revelations and investigations do open up some doubt as well. In any event if I were a Michigan fan I would be pleased we didn't get TP and the Buckeyes did. Bobda......your take on that?
As far as I know Terrell Pryor has done nothing wrong that could not have been handled by better supervision and/or advice from the program. We have only ourselves (meaning the coaches and athletic department) to blame...not the players. Oh, sure, they did some wrong things as BMOC are wont to do...but it would have amounted to nothing if handled right from the start. And where is our compliance department? Unless there is more to the story than is being bleated all over the universe, they look like complete idiots.
