I have just realized one small speed bump with the new software. When you edit a post, it does not mark the post as edited. This is a potential problem when it comes to contests. When/If moderator notification e-mails are restored to service, we can use the original notification as proof of picks and state that changes to picks must be made in new messages. Any other thoughts??? Editing to see if the post date/time changes This message has been edited twice. The date/time of the post remained as the original date/time.
I think that if we make our changes by a reply instead of editing then it shouldn't be to hard to keep up with would it Tom? Gator Bill
I have researched the issue through the Admin panel <r>There is no way to tell when someone has edited a post and we have so far found no way to turn on moderator notifications as snapshots of original posts. <br/> <br/> There is, however, a way to run the board to "<B><s></s>keep the honest man honest<e></e></B>" <E>:?</E> <br/> <br/> I have found a way to remove the option to edit posts. If we go this route, a mistaken post could be deleted by a moderator if the poster requests it. <br/> <br/> This could make a lot of work for the moderators so I suggest this to be used only during the period of the contests if at all.</r>
... on second thought... <t>We do have the preview option now so there should not be many occasions to need to edit. I know that most of the time that I needed to edit was due to improper coding of a picture or URL. With preview, we can see how it will look before we submit.</t>
Tom, let ask though why we could just not edit the contest posts and instead make another post anmouncing our changes? Gator Bill
I guess the less than up & up person could edit picks after the first game and there would be no track of it. I doubt anyone in this group would do that, though, since there's nothing of significance at stake and it's all for fun. How about just before kick-off of the first game, whoever is doing the contest or a moderator copy & paste everyone's picks in one long "these are the official picks" post. Then we can change picks at will the week before, but what's listed at kick-off is what counts. If whoever is keeping points wants to start entering picks as they're submitted, it could be made clear that changes should be pointed out in a separate post to make sure they're seen - like we do now. Using both those steps, changes would be noticed by the scorekeeper and and pick changes couldn't be snuck in after game time. Just my 2 cents...
Hey! I just corrected a typo in my post and it marked an edit time. Issue resolved? .... Nice sig Tom ... grrrr
Looks like either Terry, Bill, or Ray found the switch. I edited mine above to see if it marked just registered users and not moderators/administrators. Looks like it is now working. Problem solved. Oops, this is the second edit of this post. At least the first one did not show. Bill/Terry/Ray... are you making changes?
Just for Wendy... <r>Does the sig change look better? <E></E><br/> edit test<br/> second edit test</r>
What kind of changes Tom? Your signature is much better. Now you sound like an optimist rather than a pessimist. I'll try an edit. Also I posted a note to you, Tom, in the Back Room. It's concerning Intel Chips in an Apple computer. Gator Bill PS, added this response to try editing. Second try at editing.
I just tried editing my post, two posts up, again and it did show an edit time. I think the difference was that I edited the first one right after posting and it did not show. I came back about a half hour later and it did show.  Gator Bill
I think Bill has the answer. I edited an earlier post and it shows being edited. I posted the previous message and then edited it after one minute... nothing shows it being edited. I returned to the other post and edited a second time and it shows being edited twice. Problem solved. edit test
Think it has to do with having a post after it? I bet if you edit your most recent one now it will show an edit. Even though it was just a minute or two ago.
