Tha above was in the news today. Note how the idividual presents himself for an interview. Then looke behind him at one guy in a suit jacket and a lady in a business suit. Am I wrong in drawing a preconceived opinion here? As a business owner, I don't take the first guy seriously.

To me, he looks like a guy who is just trying to validate his unemployment. I wouldn't hire him to dig a trench.

I've interviewed a lot of people in 30 years. Here are a couple of my favorites:

A well dressed guy applied for a sales job. He sold insurance previously and was successful at it. His best tactic? In the winter he only worked age restricted developments on snowy days. He would roll in the snow and then knock door to door asking if he could use the phone as his car was disabled. The older folks would let him in, feed him etc. and he would morph into a sales pitch while inside. He said they frequently bought policies they did not need from him under those conditions. I bodily threw him out.

A kid came in for a tech job wearing t-shirt, jeans and no shoes. He told me he was living with his girlfriend's parents but they did not know it. This had gone on for months. He had followed them out here from California. He slept with her at night, hid in the closet in the morning until the parents went to work and lurked around the neighborhood in the evenings. I just pointed to the door and he walked out like the the lost puppy he was....

A girl came in for a clerical job wearing a bikini. I asked her about that and she said she was on her way to the beach. I asked about her clerical skills and she said she knew how to make a copy. I suggested she meet meet a rich old man and directed her toward the door. That one wasn't all bad....

I could go on and on 8)

I thought you are one. Might have missed a great chance, unless of course, the present Mrs. Krebs has a good right cross.

After I got shafted in the pooper by Walgreens, I had a terrible time finding a job. This bad job market has been around for longer than people seem to want to admit.

That being said... I applied for a Project Manager position with a large party supply company. They were accepting applications/resume on one day only. I was one of about 50 people there. I wore a conservative navy suit... I intentionally did not wear something that appeared 'too flashy' or 'too rich' as I knew the job didn't pay a lot.. I just badly needed the job.

I was the only person there wearing closed toe shoes (man or woman). I was one of 2 people who wasn't wearing blue jeans or shorts. The other guy was sporting khakis with flip flops and a colored t-shirt. Every woman applying for the job was wearing flip flops.

I brought with me a soft briefcase complete with my resume and other materials such as references, awards (both academic and professional) including various certifications. I don't think anyone else even brought a pen.

I didn't even get a call back. Turns out I know the girl that got the job there. Her resume isn't impressive, but her rack is magnificent... maybe Terry was doing the hiring there? :p

Which guy? If its the guy ine front then he is doing himself a great disservice by dressing like a street bum. In any case, I doubt that anyone with those credentials stands in line at a cattle call.

Wozniak spoke at a Sharp Electronics meeting I attended three years ago in Fort Worth. he was dressed in a black t shirt, baggy sweat pants and black sneakers. Not much of a speaker unless get you get off on hearing the nuts and bolts of integrated circuits.

    My ears just perked up!

You do realize that at Intel, I was a chemical engineer specializing in reactive sputter processes for metallic thin films used in electronics design. No... I was not involved in the Pentium 60 fiasco. I came to Intel in mid 1994 when the "floating point" issue was just hitting the surface.
