I know it will bring back memories. You guys as a bunch seem to be a 70's generation kind of people. How about posting a tune from the 70's that you liked the most. Use You Tube for your video.

Here's a 70's song that I liked. I know I was a little boy when I first heard this tune. It always stuck with me.

I became a teenager in 1971. The 70's music will always be my favorite. I have XM tuned to channel 7 (70's music) almost all the time. I have quite a few favorites ranging from one extreme to the other. It depended on what mood I was in at the time.

My most favorite was by Chicago. Here is an original recorded live in 1977. In 1983, before Cindy and I were married, we were part of the Boat People at Riverbend park in Chattanooga. Chicago was performing and would occasionally turn and play to the Boat People floating in the river behind the stage. I would estimate over 300 boats packed that area. The concert was a sell out 5 hours after tickets went on sale and the park authority could not control the river access. Colour my world:

Wild Cherrie was a favorite band for party music. There was a band that played at a local club called Blue Creek. They did a lot of WC music. Could not find an original by WC but here is a close remake. Play that Funky Music White Boy:

Although the music is actually from Louisana Leroux, the video is not and they could have found better subjects. This was my all time favorite slow dance song. It was played at the Junior/Senior prom when I attended as a freshman. Ladies and gentlemen... New Orleans Ladies:

I can't believe I found this one. This is an original from Yes. The guy shown with long blonde hair on the keyboards is not a permanient member of this group. Rick Wakeman performed with them but was not an original member of Yes. This music fit my mood when Jack Daniels was making decisions for me! Roundabout:

Tom, I love Yes. I hadn't really heard of Yes until they released that album in the 80's. One of my favorite albums ever. Owner of a lonely heart was on it.

Here's another 1 of my favorite tunes from the 70's...

The wife and I took a trip to Tunica Ms to gamble with a large group of friends. I suggested that we do a 70's night in the casino. So all my friends and I dressed up in these ubelievable costumes. We had a great time. What I didn't tell everyone was that I had checked out the music that Gold Strike had in store for the weekend. So I bought everyone a ticket in advance and surprised them.

These guys put on quite a show. 1 bad tune also...

Some good tunes there. I really love Youtube, it's great to go and find old videos of songs/singers from the past.

I went to high school in the 60's and to college from 68' to 1974, so I was kind of in between those two eras. I saw Yes in concert at the Long Beach Sports arena. I think it was in 1972. They were the headliners with the Edgar Winter Group on the undercard and some singer named Freddie Mercury as the opening act...

Naw. I never liked the Bee Gees myself, but they were huge in the '70's Disco era. They were from Australia and their name stood for the "Brothers Gibb", which was their last name. I think they actually had their first hit in the late 60's and they had hit tunes for over 20 years as a group and as individuals...

My 19 year old son is the lead singer and lead guitarist in his new band called Lake Effect.

He has always been heavily influenced by the good music from the late 60s and early 70s. ( I taught him well on that )

They have four new recordings on myspace that my son wrote the lyrics and music for and they are sweet.

    Check 'em out:

The first song is very recent and is killer...

Wow! They're pretty good! I have a brother who's a musician, so I know a little about this and I know what I like. Lake Effect sounds like the real deal to me...

    Hey thanks Phantom.

My son has been playing and singing in a band since he was 15....4 years ago.

As I said he completely wrote 3 out of 4 of those songs.

Hopefully one day he will get a chance to play nationwide.

Here's one I bet you guys remember. It's funny how over time you can forget stuff. I would've swore the captain sang this song with her. Boy these guys were huge!

MCG, Those boys aren't bad at all. It's a long tough road they are on, but with a lot of determination it can be done. I have an old HS friend who made it big in music. Ever heard of Sevendust? It's been 25 plus years of grinding for him, but he's on top now. You can see him here, he's got the hat on backwards. He plays bass. It's funny but ESPN was interviewing Johnny Damon of the Red Sox and his best man in the wedding was Morgan Rose of Sevendust, ESPN did a big feature on the band. I just happened to catch that feature from work. I shook my head and thought back of the HS days when Vince use to play in a band with some other HS friends at parties at kids parents houses on weekend nights. Ofcourse the parents would be out of town for the weekend. :0 Boy has come a long ways. Anyway here's his band, like I said he has the hat on backwards. Covering up the hairline I'm pretty sure, since their music is aimed at a younger crowd.

Here's a group you might remember from my town...had a big hit in 1967.

They still live here and get together once in a while at events...Rick Nesta is an acquaintance of mine who now owns a small restaurant downtown.

    re: The Captain & Tennille

That very successful husband/wife team was evidence of why it's always been so difficult to break into the movie/music business out here. Its a closed industry where everybody hires family and friends. Its a rare entertainer who comes in from the outside and its been that way for a long, long time...

The "Captain" was Daryl Dragon. He was the son of the Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra's conductor, Carmen Dragon. Also, his mother had been a singer in Hollywood films of the 1930's. He got his nickname "Captain Keyboards" as Brian Wilson's road replacement for the Beach Boys. From his earliest college days, he had access to recording studios, seed money, connections and opportunities that those outside the industry could only dream about...

Here's my son Mike. He's always been a musical hobbyist . He plays the accoustic guitar and bass. I'm very close with my son and all these years I have never heard him sing until yesterday. He's kept it in the closet for all these years until 2 months ago. He never sang in public or even in front of friends. What a wonderful surprise it was for me. I couldn't believe the sounds coming from his mouth. This is my son?

Here's his My space account. My favorite is the 2nd song "Don't think Twice" by Bob Dylan.

He recently joined his step brothers band Echo Vission as a bass player. They are semi pro having cut a couple of albums and played in some reputable venues. He might even do some vocals as he gets better.

They are all late 20's early 30's and have full time jobs and families.

Hey! We have some artistic people in our families! Maybe we should form our own band or something...

    TB,

For that genre of music these guys are pretty good. I am sure fans of that style (Godsmack, etc.) must enjoy their energy.

I don't particularly like that style but there are many young fans that do.

    Stu,

I used to love that song "Little Bit of Soul". Still sounds good and I liked Tom Petty's version as well.

    AJ,

Your son's list of musical influences is very similar to my son's list on myspace.

My son's band also does a cover of Feelin Allright and I like the way your son has reinvented it. Sounds great...he has talent.

Echofission sounds nice also and I can see they have some club venue experience and are looking for gigs. Hopefully your son will keep his music active and you get to see a show.

Thanks Mo, Isn't it such a coincidence that they like the same music?
Yes, we did teach them well :) It's funny, but back when he was in his early teens, I used to think I misplaced my CD's until one day, I found them all in his room.

I was tickled to hear him sing. I didn't know he could sing and you know what, I don't think he did either.
We'll see where this leads him. Right now he justs enjoys doing it for fun.
One thing for sure, I'll always be behind him, no matter what he does.

Same here AJ except that my son is 19 and treats his music as a career he wants to follow for now. I always say if he stays on the straight path and doesn't do things that hurt himself or anyone else and he pays his way if not in school then I can't complain too much.

My son is very good at singing and composing music but at 19 who knows where that will lead him.

He is working so many hours now at min. wage jobs I don't know if he has the time to properly pursue his music but I have stood my ground and....no school.....no money from me.

Hopefully he will find the way.
