The top seed overall fell to Louisville tonight. That means Tennessee will have to play against the team that knocked Baylor off the hill. Not sure which would be better... :?
I can't believe that Baylor lost. They are such a dominant team with Griner and Odessy Sims at PG. I had basically conceded the NC to Baylor. BTW, all the #2 seeds made it to the Final 8, including #2 seed Tenn Lady Vols! So don't believe Tom!
Oh, I believe... I believe that anything can an will happen in Basketball this year. If Tennessee wins the NC, I will be extremely happy. Too many hurdles to jump at this time though. Cautiously optimistic.
I didn't see the game but looking at the comments on the womens board at NDNation it was a horribly officiated game, but not in Louisvilles favor. Also apparently Mulkey went nuts at the end of the game and should have gotten a Tech and didn't. She was openly critical of the officals in her post game press conference.
I watched the second half and agree re: the refs. There were lots of questionable calls both ways, but L'ville got the brunt. Although Mulkey went nuts, she never said anything directly to the refs, so whether or not she should have been T'd up is a matter of opinion. What stood out to me is that Baylor did not lose gracefully, not even close. Mulkey's melt-down and their post-game conduct was pitiful.
Some of the comments I've read on various boards say that Louisville went out and played "thug" ball on Griner. But that can't be the first time some team has decided that they will run a bunch of players at her and foul her to frustrate her and make her shoot free throws. Griner certainly was/is the best player in college basketball and will be the #1 draft pick in the WNBA draft. But she still leaves college with "only" 1 Nat'l Title. Could have won three, the year that A&M won the title they beat A&M three times during the season, but it finally caught up with them in the Regional Final and A&M finally beat them. Other wise they would have been in the Final Four and the favorite to win it all. Now the Irish, should we get past Duke could be faced with having to beat UConn a 4th time to get to the final game.
The discussion above about A&M and Baylor reminds me of ND and UConn. If there's one school I hope the Lady Irish don't have to face it's them. You can only kick a dog so many times before she bites you.
Tennessee girls dug to deep of a hole but made a valient effort in the 2nd half to lose to the better team by 8 points. Congrats to Louisville.
