The Pac10 has now officially, in the media's eyes, become the bottom of the barrel for BCS conferences. Much of that has to do with the 4-0 run of the Mountain West over the Pac10 this weekend. I certainly don't understand this logic, but whatever they need to tell themselves to get thru the night I suppose... This is certainly not the 'up' year for the Pac10 and I believe most fans thought that way. Aside from USC, Arizona was suppose to be 'up' but that was up from where they were... the rest of the conference had question marks and a lot of re-loading. Still, even rebuilding I would take USC, Cal, Oregon and Arizona State to compete with the top 4 of any other conference. Not saying they would win all, or lose all. I'm just saying that they are no better or worse this year. The goofiest loss of the day was Cal's. That game was pure Golden Bears.. Fall asleep for 3 qtrs. Finally realize that you are on the verge of losing to a joke of an ACC team, then unleash 3 TDs in the final 10 minutes of the game only to lose when you can't pull off the onside kick. Oddly, the media reports this game as a blowout, whereas other games that came down to an onside kick at the end are being reported as close affairs.. Oh well, if they did what they should have.. this game should have been over long before the 4th qtr. Tedford still continues to make boneheaded calls that put his team behind the 8 ball and give away momentum. I believe Scott called this correctly about Cal going for the onside and giving up field position too early, thus allowing Maryland the chance to score what would be the game winning TD in the 4th. UCLA is just too thin. Get use to this...at least for this season. Historically, UCLA plays awful after winning a big game.. They simply did what they have always done, but this time they did it playing with a skeleton crew and got whacked by a VERY good BYU team looking to prove something. Arizona State's loss to UNLV would be a head scratcher, if it weren't for Coach E's established pattern of brain farts and inconsistency. Arizona.... ugh... I want Coach Stoops to succeed but that loss last week really, really casts some shadows. Washington State is a train wreck. Washington is led by Ty. Oregon State lacks a power running game in an offense designed to have a power running game as its back bone. Oregon looks good but they continue to have QB injury problems. Belotti almost got snookered by Ole Wilford Brimley (diiiaaabeeetuuss), luckily they pulled their heads out in time to win it. THat was a great game plan by Purdue and their defense deserved better. Stanford is still Stanford. Why in the world is the Mountain West not a BCS conference? The WAC will not be a BCS buster this year with Fresno State's close loss to Wiscy.
I can't... I just can't.. As soon as USC escapes my lips, it is followed by the word "sucks"... I'm working on it.. Its a day to day process.. One step at a time.
I didn't see that much negative pub, but I wasn't looking for it either. I did hear a lot of guys saying it was USC and everybody else... not meaning just the PAC, but the rest of the country! I have to agree with the Arizona loss being a bit of a "huh?" moment. I expected Rick's Cats to pummell NM. The Lobos are not a good team, as I witnessed first hand a week ago. Based on Corey's report, I'd pronounce the Aggies the Oregon St of the Big 12. We need a power running game, but don't have an offensive line that can block the powderpuff team!
On the Brimley/Tiller note <r><IMG src="http://www.movieactors.com/characters/freezes1/Brimley1.jpeg"><s></e></IMG><br/> <br/> <IMG src="http://media.wsbt.com/images/Michigan%20St%20Purdue%20tiller.JPG"><s></e></IMG></r>
You think maybe BYU arrived in Seattle already having counted their chickens and then found out the actually had to play the game? Besides that Locker kid (QB) is a tremendous college QB and a very strong runner. Too bad he doesn't have a coach. He could have a Brady Quinn like rebirth if they fire Ty and bring in a real coach next year.
In 1st games, I believe anything can happen. (UCLA/Tennessee). Also, UCLA is really, really thin. They are a team that might well upset people when healthy and get whacked when they are thin..(ala BYU) Like all of Ty's teams, look for them to start with some hype and energy, then fade into the sunset.
