I just started reading this new book by Armand Keteyian and Jeff Benedict concerning the workings of big time college football programs. I felt it was timely given our discussions on here.

So far I have read all about the interesting career of Mike Leach and the titillating uses of "hostesses" to attract young HS boys to your program. Tennessee's "Orange Pride" was featured in this chapter. Now I am on to Michigan football. 8)

One statement they made in the prologue amazed me. Of all the 120 big time FCS programs, only 22 operate in the black.

I welcome comments and I will update regularly....

Wetzel praised this book endlessly earlier and I never got around to reading it. I'll probably start it soon. I hear it's a rather sobering look at the game for the average fan. It won't turn you away from the game, but you will understand it more.

Just finished the chapter on recruiting and player perks at Texas. Doc, does the name Don King mean anything to you ? Not the boxing promoter.
