Classic Trap game right? Tar Heels were a preseason top 25 team, had 15 starters returning, Larry Fedora is a good coach, right? Well they've not looked good. This of course is their season saving chance game. In 2012 after the grueling game vs Stanford we had a trap game with BYU and just barely got by them 17-14 before the trip to Oklhaoma. BYU was a better team than UNC appears to be. So while it would be nice to put 50 on them (or more), mainly I'd be happy with a clean win where the offense looks good and mistake free. Not another Syracuse game where we are never really in doubt that we'll win, but we kept shooting ourselves in the foot.
Speaking of trap games, NWU has played NU tough all games played, and has a win. NWU is riding high after beating wisky, so i expect a huge effort by NU just to squeak by with a win.....wonder if we'll get 1/2 the stadium again like we did 2 years ago....
This is a good time to see if we can finally get the O line working properly. This is our last chance before heading to Tally. We're going to need a consistent running game there if we're to have any chance of pulling the upset.
I haven't seen the offical announcement on und.com. But it's on the board at NDNation that Miami of Ohio is going to be our opening opponent for 2017. I'm not really thrilled about adding a MAC opponent to tell you the truth, just like I'm not thrilled about UMass, Temple, Nevada, and Army being on future schedules. I know it's the usual and "everybody" does it. I don't think we have to play all Power 5 opponents and I'm happy to continue our long standing relationship with Navy. I'd just rather not play MAC teams, rather play AAC or Mtn West or even CUSA like Rice.
I'm guessing that that is one of the years where we play 3 ACC teams on the road. If we want to continue the Shamrock Series and keep home games we're going to have to sometimes schedule opponents who won't demand a home and home deal. It's part of the stress the agreement with the ACC puts on our schedule.
ND <r>NC should not be that much of a challenge for ND. Hell, everybody seems to put at least 30 or 40 on the board against them. Vegas has ND as a 17 pt favorite. <B><s></s>All reasons to remember you never take anyone lightly. <e></e></B> As far as I'm concerned there are no easy games. Let's hope the team feels the same and gets after these guys from the get go and not even let them think they can win the game.</r>
Wow I didn't see this coming. Brandon Wimbush a QB who has been committed to Penn State for quite a while now has changed his committment to Notre Dame after visiting last weekend for the Stanford game. Rivals has him as the #2 Pro Style QB and #65 overall player. ESPN has him as the #71 player and a Dual Threat I really thought we'd end up without a QB in this class, which really isn't a good thing given the hit/miss with QB's and also the high transfer risk at QB. It's not hard to end up with 1 guy who can start and a true freshman who has never played as you QB depth. That's where Texas is right now.
On the other side of the win some lose some....Jerry Tillery took a visit to the Ole Miss game last weekend. He's a guy who continues to say he's committed to ND but continues to talk to all the programs. But that's the way it is these days, a verbal is just a holding card. Brian Kelly is out trying to get guys like Wimbush to flip, while other coaches are talking to his players trying to get them to flip. It's worse now than it's ever been. I'm not really sure that even an early signing period would help. The kids want options, they want a place the know that the can go but they don't really want to be committed in the old way where you never went on another trip once you gave your verbal to a coach. Mack Brown would pull a scholarship if a kid took another visit after he gave a visit. Can't do that anymore.
ND <t>And the recruiting wars continue. Alabama flips our QB commit so we flip Penn States'. Brandon Wimbush is Irish(for now)</t>
ND <r>Just looked at some video on Wimbush....Nice, very nice. Hope we can hold onto him till signing day.<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://youtu.be/wVxLQ01YD-Q">http://youtu.be/wVxLQ01YD-Q</URL></r>

ND <r>Honestly, you can't start a topic anywhere else for that crap? Really? Did you need help figuring out how to start a topic? What is the problem? <E></E><br/> <br/> Wait, I found it for you: <URL url="http://www.theskybox.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=9764">http://www.theskybox.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=9764</URL><br/> <br/> go there please. <E></E></r>
Relax Tim! AJ's just having a little fun. re: Wimbush This is exciting news! He looks fantastic in those films. What a rocket for on arm!
Kelly has a lot to offer. Great school, national exposure every week, top flight schedule, a willing to play freshmen early and often. But some kids want to stay close to home or play only in warm weather. What are you going to do? And others are offered perks that no one wants to talk about. It's a dirty business.
