First day will be over by noon here in Houston. I see that Patrick Reed is the leader in the Club House at -5 and Phil is only 1 shot back at -4 through the first 9 holes. I watched some of the review of Royal Troon on the Golf Channel and I think I'd have to just skip #11, what a daunting drive.
This is Zach's type of course, I wouldn't say it's Phil's type of course. He probably has nightmares of not being able to just rip it with a big draw or fade. But clearly he's got it going today. I like Phil and would be happy to see him win it again. Guys I'd like to see win it. Phil Dustin Jason Day Spieth Bubba
Phil was robbed on his last putt!! Could've should've had a record 62! Instead settled for a 63 and -8 and 3 shot lead. http://www.golfchannel.com/media/mickelson-lips-out-putt-62-open/
No wind, no rain and a final round of the British Open with no one in well holes with sand in the bottom or no golf balls getting blown off of the greens and two guys playing almost flawless golf and no delayed penalties after microanalysis by the officials. Pretty good stuff. Stinson and Mickelson put on a show.
Tremendous round of golf today by Phil and Hendrik. This was like a great heavyweight championship fight with toe to toe action. Stenson landed a 70 ft. hay maker and Phil never recovered. A true classic.
Phil left it all out there, played a bogey free round...just got beat by a steamroller. He said that if you asked him what a 65 would get him today, at breakfast, he said at that he would have expected to win with that. In other news, I watched the end of the Barbasol and Aaron Baddley won in a playoff. He wore a white hat with absolutely no markings on it which to me means he had slipped so much nobody was interested in paying him to put their logo on his hat. I don't think I've ever seen a Pro without some logo on his hat. Also kudo's to his wife who had 4 kids under 8 to keep in line and one of them she had on her back, she kept them totally in line. Impressive effort. On the ladies tour, Lydia Ko won for the 14th time, and she's 19! It was a dumb playoff, the only playoff hole was the 18th and they played it over and over and over and over till somebody finally blinked.
According to reports, Tiger is done for the year. He will continue his rehab and look to the 2016-2017 season to return to competitive golf. While anything is possible, I seriously wonder if Tiger will ever be more than an average PGA Tour player going forward. Might win once in awhile or not ever again. I also can't see him playing on the Champions Tour when he is eligible.
