This could easily be the guy:

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/bruce-feldman/24372078/despite-being-cleared-in-unc-scandal-davis-still-waiting-for-next-gig

Why not? His rep is clear..... there seems to be no one else out there at the moment and he still has a good 10 years left in him.

    What say you Terry?

He can talk all he wants about how he had policies in place, that he was cleared of any complicity in the UNC scandals. But they happened on his watch, he has culpability. Maybe that's not fair, but it's a common theme whether we're talking about some corporate scandal like Enron where Ken Lay denied he knew anything about what his underlings were doing to Butch Davis denial that he had anything to do with what went on under his watch.

The man is a good college football coach, he had UNC pointed the right direction. But I doubt anybody will hire him again. Nobody will hire Jim Tressel again either. If you do stuff like what the guy at Ark did you can get another job, if you do what that old Wazzu coach did when he went to 'Bama you can get another job ...not as good as those jobs. But those guys just did stuff that was an embarassment to the Universities, they didn't get their school in trouble.

Good point about those coaches that get their schools in trouble.

I know I certainly don't want anyone capable of that getting my team in trouble.

So you have to wonder then about the article itself that seems so favorable and supportive of Davis.

Is something amiss here? Can Davis truly be innocent of all charges and knowledge of the misdeeds?

Maybe a school like Texas has too much to lose then but he sure could coach that program up a little I would bet.

Remember it was Davis who was elevated to head coach at Miami after Erickson left and was given the job to clean up a program out of control. He did this with gusto and also did a hell of a job recruiting for the school before leaving to coach in the NFL.

It was the talent that Davis recruited that won Miami's NC in 2001 and almost again in 2002. His ability to recruit is on par with the best. I have always thought that he was weak on gameday decision making and too predictable.

If he is clean he would be be a great choice in a year with a scant amount of choices.

That would be the epitome of bottom feeding on Texas' part. No way.

Mack supposedly has told his assistant coaches he's done....I'll bet it was a shock for those guys.

Cost.... 13M 4 million up front and 1.3M a year till 2020. He must have Charlie Weis for an agent.

This is just fantastic. I hope you guys never fire Mack, but never stop searching for his replacement. This will carry us right on through to the bowls.

Oh boy...nobody ever learns from other schools.

Texas supposedly will go after Urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh, and Jimbo Fisher. By that I mean they will talk to their agents to guage interest and what it would take to get them to Austin. I can't see any of those guys leaving their current job.

As I posted on Facebook: Go Vols! I feel for Texas fans. They are about to embark upon a situation that we Vols know all to well.

A little truth to that Tom, a lot of settlers from Tenn to Texas during that time, including of course Davy Crockett and Sam Houston. Wesward Ho!

Here's the bracket for the next Longhorn Coach....

Why not Cutcliffe? I'll bet Foley has considered it.

I believe that Cut and Malzahn would be prime candidates at UF but each probably needs one more year of scrutiny that keeping Muschamp another year affords Foley at this point.

I wouldn't rule out Charlie Strong returning to UF either.

Obviously I have lost faith in what Muschamp is trying to accomplish..... or at least in his methods of getting there.

If I think these guys could possibly be a fit at Florida then of course they could possibly be a fit at Texas. But Texas doesn't have one more year to evaluate anyone.

The Horns will be acting very soon on their hunches because I don't see any slam dunks willing to relocate to Austin.

you know as great as the rewards would be for coaching at Texas, it will obviously come with a lot of outside obligations and distractions. Some coaches are okay with that and would handle it well. Others not so much. For instance, I just cannot see Saban putting up with the "attention" of the BOT. Y'all really need to see some of his press conferences at Alabama from a few years ago. It doesn't happen much anymore, he has most of the instate reporters trained.

"A'ight" is going to be added to our already colorful language in this state.
