Can you imagine this happening in todays era with our "modern" media!! ESPN would spend two months on this.... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=lukas/100916_gators_hurricanes_florida_flop&sportCat=ncf
I remember reading about that, never have seen the clip though. Good catch. Funny thing is that 7,000 yds for a career is no big deal in the Spread Offense era. I think several Texas Tech QB's had 5000yds in a single season and Timmy Chang of Hawaii had over 17,000 yds in his career. Of course like John Reaves, Timmy Chang had no NFL career.
I was a kid....listening in on the radio.....and hoping they would do something like that. Still.....you would never see anything like that today. Reaves would go on to get that "what goes around comes around" thing though.....look at who his son-in-law is.....  Hint......he is evil to all Vol fans......
Terry, Doug Dickey played football at the University of Florida. He bacame a head coach at Tennessee where he won at least one SEC Championship in the 60's. The Gators hired him away from Tennessee at the end of the 69 season and he was head coach at Florida from 70 - 78. He had some early success and almost won the SEC as the Gator head coach but did not. By the end of his tenure the Gators were not a good football team. He bounced around a few years then became the AD at Tennessee. He was there from 1985 - 2002.
Douglas Adair "Dickless" Dickey was the coach at Tennessee that became the Dennis Franchione of Tennessee football. Could you imagine Coach Fran being offered the AD job at Alabama? That is how a lot of Vols feel about Dickey. Tennessee played Florida in the Gator Bowl after we won the SEC championship in 1969. Rumors were flying around that Dickless was going to leave Tennessee to go to Florida. He denied it to his players. We lost that game by one point and the next week, Dickless was in Florida negotiating with the Florida AD. I never respected Dickless after that point. I was only 11 years old but was a sports enthusiast by that age and remember it like it was yesterday. I have made my thoughts of him well known on this board.
DD is responsible for the most infamous coaching blunder in UF history.....the 4th and dumb call vs. Ga that cost the Gators their first SEC championship.
