In case you didn't see it in the wake of the BCS uproar... BOWLS The Aggies face Penn St. in San Antonio. Seems like a decent match up now that Fran isn't running the single wing anymore!
8) UCLA is always in trouble in games like the Las Vegas Bowl. In recent years, they've lost to the likes of Wyoming, Fresno State and a bad FSU team in bowls like that. Bruin fans won't travel for a minor bowl game. Its basketball season for them and BYU has a good team... Utah vs Navy looks interesting. I'll watch that one... Boise State will kill East Carolina... Arizona State vs. Texas: Terry gets his chance to prove Big12 superiority with his own alma mater; against Dennis Erickson. I'll observe. Rose Bowl will be dull. Nobody to root for this year...
I don't expect the Longhorns to beat Az State to tell you the truth. Our defense just stinks and our offense is good but not great.
This is priceless...... We get Louisiana State in Louisiana M gets Florida in Florida Penn St gets Texas A&M in Texas Illinois gets Southern California in southern California Purdue gets Central Michigan in central Michigan
BT You guys always act as if the SEC can purposely control how the bowl venues work out in our favor when playing your teams. It's pretty phenomenal how LSU's turn at the NC just so happens when the game is in New Orleans. That's like if the Super Bowl was in the Super Dome and the Saints made the game. Trust me......the Saints would have nothing to do with orchestrating that turn of events as obviously Mike Slive and the SEC have nothing to do with the circumstance of OSU playing LSU in New Orleans. You were at the game last year in Glendale....over 2000 miles away from Florida and tell us all how many OSU fans were in the stadium compared to the outnumbered Gator fans? Inquiring minds want to know.
MCG, I think his point was the Big 10 is in essence playing road games in all of their meaningful bowls. He wasn't pointing a finger at the SEC... geez.
Guilty of not reading fully there BT and sensitive to what Krebsie said in another post....not you. Maybe it's just years of Corey teaching me to knee jerk react to those kinds of comments. My bad... 8)
I like the Cotton Bowl match-up of Arkansas vs Missouri. This could be one of the more entertaining match-ups of the whole bowl season.
Of course Midwestern Teams have always essentially played road games for their bowls since they were invented. Of course back then not a lot was on the line and they were a reward for a good season, a way to get midwesterners down south and sell them real estate and vacation rentals. Did Miami ever win a Nat'l Championship outside of the Orange Bowl? It was certainly a home game for them. Think of all those Rose Bowls where USC plaeyed essentially a home game against the B10. Terry
Why doesn't a group of well-heeled Big-10 fans ... bankroll some new bowl games? Hey, maybe the #2 Big-10 and Pac-10 teams could match up in the Indy-dome? I don't think the southern bowl games were started by locals/natives .... but rather by carpetbaggers hoping to sell swamp land to their yankee bretheren. WRT the miami query: Year Coach Selector Record Bowl 1983 Howard Schnellenberger AP, Coaches 11-1 Won Orange 1987 Jimmy Johnson AP, Coaches 12-0 Won Orange 1989 Dennis Erickson AP, Coaches 11-1 Won Sugar 1991 Dennis Erickson AP 12-0 Won Orange 2001 Larry Coker AP, Coaches 12-0 Won Rose And FWIW, nether of UF's MNC wins came in Florida.
Good points made by Terry and GF. The bowls are outmoded concepts invented by monied Northerners seeking as excuse to get away from the families for the holidays. Most of the inventors have already moved to Florida making the need for the bowls moot. Plus, their flight to Florida has caused great hardshit to native Floridians causing them to fle to North Georgia or even as far north as Grosse Pointe. I herewith propose two bowls for your consideration: 1. The Bratwurst Bowl, matching up the No 1 SEC vs No. Big 10 teams, played on New Years Day at historic Lambeau Field in Green Bay. There are plenty of things to do in GB at this time of year like bowling, ice fishing, and sled dog racing. 2. The Peirogi Bowl, matching up SEC 2 vs. Big 10 2. This would be played at beautiful Ford Field in Detroit. Given the cold weather in January, most traditional urban Detroit activities- carjacking, gang rapes, and multiple homicides with bodies left in dumpsters or the trunks of cars packed at Metro Airport- are on seasonal hiatus. However, just across the river is the Great Canadian city of Windsor which, to Michiganders, is what Juarez is to Texans. I am sure our south of the Mason-Dixon line friends will find plenty to do at the high culture, French-Canadian gentlemen's establishments that can be found in Windsor. The only downside is that the Loonie is now worth more than the dollar so one gets less bang for one's buck, so to speak...
