This is going to be an extra tough month for me. Monday they tell us our assigned "spot in line" for picking our seats in the new stadium. Mine should fall around the 21st based on current status. So I have to wait 3 weeks to put in for my future seats, and 4 weeks for the season to start! I plan to up the ante... from two seats to four. I'll be moving to the south end... but should have the same view with a little more shade time. Anyone that's visited here knows how important "shade time" is! 8)
I have a rather huge interview Tuesday with a firm down in Cullman. Fingers crossed that I land that. If I do, I've honestly thought about possibly checking out a few Tide games this year.. KP, you game? Scott, how do you even find shade? That damned thing is so high, you're only like half a block from the sun. I never understand why some stadiums are built with those giant stacks of bleachers on the sidelines, instead of a bowl..but to each their own.. Making a move to 4 tickets is going to have do kick you in the wallet a bit, especially after this past season and the move to the SEC... no?
KP, Fingers crossed on this. So far, so good. *knock on wood* this may just free me up to do the Nebraska migration as well. (ARE YOU READING THIS HUSKERMAN)
Sorry for the late response Corey... I'm still pulling for you belatedly! As for the sideline stacks... I've never understood the bowl thing. Half those seats suck cuz you're too low to see. But like you said... to each his own. Actually... I'm giving up armchairs for bench (but they are larger than standard old benches) so the cost change is not significant. Re: road trips... maybe you guys can meet up with me in Miss sometime? I've never been to the Grove, so a trip to Oxford is in order some time soon.
nothing good. The VP of the company essentially killed my hire. He put in a hiring freeze and stopped all OT (they were working unlimited OT until yesterday). The manager who wanted to hire me actually called me to apologize for it all and to promise me that when business picks back up, I'll be the first person he calls. The interview was surreal. Basically, he offered me the job in the first 2 minutes. From there, he began explaining the details of the job as well as the benefits. The pay and benefits were off the charts beyond anything I had ever hoped for at any company in this state. I was blown away. He then began say that he didn't think I'd want this job because I'd have to start at entry level for this position. In his words "You are over qualified for nearly every single position in this company that isn't on the Board. Why would you want an entry level position?" I told him, referring to my resume, that if he checked my 2 previous employers, those were both jobs in which I didn't know anything of the field at all but quickly mastered the craft and rose to a position of respected authority by both coworkers and senior management. In both cases, the company actually wound up creating entire new business/revenue streams to capitalize on my talents. So to answer in short, I'm looking for an opportunity. I love challenges and I love learning new fields. This appears to be a field with nearly infinite expansion and a high learning curve. You provide the opportunity and I will provide hard working, dedicated excellence that will raise the bar in a cohesive manner for your department.' Dude was beyond sold. He still insisted that I wouldn't be willing to drive to Cullman (about 40min South) every day for the money they were willing to pay for entry level. I told him that despite it violating the decorum of professional job interviews, just give me a ball park.. what are we talking here? How bad is bad? I had already done the math in my head and I knew the financial cut off line for what is and is not doable for me to take the job. His 'low ball' estimate for significantly higher than my highest dreams. If that was 'entry level', I honestly couldn't wait to see what I'd be making in a year when I do master the software..which, in his words, was a certainty. He went to the VP to get me hired with the thought in mind that he was going to try to get me even a few bucks more per hour.. He thought in a worst case scenario that they'd come back to the low ball number (which again, was much higher than I was hoping for). Instead, the VP gave him the bad news that both the Cullman and Houston offices had bad sales years, steel sales are down as the price of steel is through the roof (thanks to those dickhead bankers we bailed out artificially inflating the market price) so they are going to have to tighten the belt...no more OT no new hires until further notice. Like I said, the guy called me back to apologize profusely and beg me to keep them in mind when the market picks back up because they will be calling me.. That didn't keep my power from getting shut off this morning, but it's a nice sentiment.. This **** is getting old. But thanks for the positive vibes and wishes, guys. I'm back to the grindstone hunting away once more.
