Texas A&M at 4 Michigan at 3 Clemson at 2 Alabama at 1 Granted, this will all work itself out, but the CFP is putting themselves in a really weird position if all 4 win out. Washington is the unbeaten odd man out, but I can't see them being left out if they win out.
Not weird. The current resume can't take into account conference championships yet, which would be a tie-breaker of similar teams. So, once wazzu beats uw in the apple cup, then utah or colorado in the cg, then we'll see just how much a conference championship is worth.
hahaha you are truly inspired by the Cubs, Cavs and Indians aren't you? I am really looking forward to the Apple Cup this year, just like every year, but it should be amazing this year.
Its a snapshot. A lot will change and, if Washington wins out they will be in. The Aggies have a lot of footbal in front of them so this is just a nice tip of the hat at the 2/3 point. Of course when the Cougs knock off the Sled Pups it will all be neat and tidy!
Might as well be. It's been a loooong time since I've been able to enjoy WSU football. How perfect would it be for uw to go undefeated into the Apple Cup, and Wazzu knock them, not only out of the CFP, not only out of the Rose Bowl, not only out of the Alamo, but all the way down to the Holiday??? Unfortunately, the Holiday is still a pretty good place to land. Too good, in fact, for the likes of purple slave dogs. Interestingly, WSU owns the sixth-longest winning streak in the nation. The top four have winning streaks that include at least one from last year. Clemson is the only currently undefeated team that lost their final game last year. 1. Bama - 20: 8+12 2. WMU - 11: 9+2 2. uw - 11: 8+3 4. UM - 9: 8+1 5. Clemson - 8: 8+0 6. WSU - 6 7. Five with 5 (OU, LT, Auburn, Troy, App St.)
I think it was Greg McElroy on XM this morning who said that Wash would not even make it to the Pac12 Champ game, he predicts the Cougars to beat them in Pullman and go in their place. Wash State to face Penn State in the Rose Bowl according to him. Speaking of Penn State, James Franklin was under more than a little fire after losing to Pitt early in the season and his AD or President had to come out and give him the dreaded vote of confidence. That upset of Ohio State has completely flipped the field on his detractors and he followed it up with a rout of Purdue. He has a decent shot at running the table, starting with Iowa this week at home. Also under a lot of fire early was Clay Helton at USC, but since he inserted Sam Darnold at QB the Trojans have turned the corner and I don't hear any talk of Helton being relieved mid-season by Lyn Swan. Max Browne the starter at QB early has announced he's leaving USC, he's graduating and moving on to another team. Helton gave him a full release so he could even play at another Pac12 school.
Kes, I love that you're loving football without fearing them 'Cougin' it. T, A Wazzu Penn State Rose bowl?? I can't see that, but then again, he makes the big bucks.
LMAO I definitely didn't say THAT! I have suffered through waaaaaay too many of those moments to ever not fear that happening.
And, after #2, #3, and #4 go down, WSU now owns the third-longest active winning streak in the nation. The top two have winning streaks that include games from last year. 1. Bama - 22: 10+12 2. WMU - 12: 10+2 6. WSU - 8 7. Three (OU, LT, Troy) - 7
Even though both UM and Clemson lost to big underdogs, I don't expect them to fall very far in the CFP rankngs. UM is still in the top 4 of the AP/Coaches and Clemson is just outside the top 4 at #5. Washington who lost at home to USC a top 25 team was punished a little more and fell 3 slots to #7. Washington winning out would likely displace Louisville and get back into the top 4. Of course if Ohio State beats UM that ends the regular season for both teams if PSU wins out in the regular season. 2nd loss for UM would drop them out but will the B1G Champion lose out to Ohio State? Probably.
Terry, I wish I could share your confidence about the Buckeyes jumping over the Big Ten Conference Champion for the playoffs. While the Wolverines have shown they are not perfect, especially on the road, I think they will give us a very serious challenge here in Columbus. This is one of those situations where a 3 point loss on the road to Penn State is going to bite our arse.
Don, If the Buckeyes win out, they will not lose ground in the CFP standings, they have already beaten Wisc, and even if Wisc wins the B1G championship I don't see a 2 loss B1G champion jumping Ohio State, same for PSU, even though they beat Ohio State at home. I think the committee will look at that game as what it was an upset, and not proof that PSU is the better team. I think if OSU wins out, and the committee gives the nod to the B1G champion because they are the champion then they have failed. The goal is supposed to be the 4 best teams. Ohio State wins out, they will be the best B1G team even though they won't be in the Championship game. I think the same could be said for Louisville if they win out, but don't play in the ACC Championship game. If the ACC Champ is anybody but Clemson then Louisville is in, IMHO. Clemson wins out, then I think Louisville is on the edge and could be left out. I'm thinking Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and Wash are still looking good if they win out. I think Alabama could lose a game and still make it, but the other 3 have to win out.
Don, It is going to be very interesting if Ohio State, Clemson, Louisville and Washington all win out, who will be in and who will be out. :?
I don't think there will be any question, Louisville will be out. Clemson by virtue of the win over them and being the ACC Champion will get the slot and if Wash wins out they Pac12 championship will give them that edge. Plus Louisville since the Clemson loss hasn't really played an esp difficult schedule.
Also I'm not discounting Michigan or conceding that Ohio State will beat them...but OSU does have the better QB and it is in Columbus. I think those 2 things will be the deciding factor.
Well since we have moved up to #2 this week, I feel a bit more confident. At least now we can control our own destiny. A loss to MSU would be fatal, one to Michigan maybe?? A wild one would be MSU beating Penn State. That would open the door for a chance to play in the conference championship, assuming we can win out.
