What a brilliant idea TOK....you could market this thing big time on game day and make a killing.....ND's own - Golden Gnome

In all seriousness, it's a great thing when these guys return and give back.....

    Buckeye Terry,

I agree it is nice when former OSU athletes are successful and give back to projects such as what Nick has done.

Yes it is, most of our major athletic programs would be nothing if not for Alumni and other interested parties giving back. At ND we had one really unusal gift, a former ND softball player was unfortunately killed in a freak accident in Chicago during construction on the John Hancock building...literally something dropped out of the sky and killed her and 3 others. After her parents reached a settlement, they donated a new softball field in her honor.

    1. Nick Swisher Field - Truly a very generous act. There's always been something about him as a competitive, hustling ballplayer that I've liked. Now in addition to liking him, I respect and admire him for his generosity.

    2. ND Softball Stadium - Terry, I was not aware of that story. Thanks.

    3. Donating a Garden Gnome to ND - Terry, that truly would be a noble gesture. I hope to be able to afford a slat in a bench somewhere on campus.

Sid here is a link to the Melissa Cook Stadium:

Melissa Cook Softball Stadium It's really quite a story, her life and what her parents did with the settlement.

Swisher was a throw in acquisition three years ago. Most Yankee fans figured he would never wear the uniform, that he would be quickly re-packaged in another trade.

Now he is without question the most popular Yankee with the fans and with his team mates.

That is a great gesture. Go Bucks!
