One of the unusual design features of the Harbaugh is that it does not have an 'off" button. I am becoming a fan of the Pirate. http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/04/08/mike-leach-rips-ncaas-decision-to-ban-satellite-camps/
I find this issue humorous. The SEC and PAC12 both have the clear recruiting advantage in their back yards. I've always believed it's the coaches and the programs that are the attractions for the kids. I can't imagine that a northern school holding a camp in a southern or western state is going to swing the recruiting pendulum. Having said that, I could foresee Michigan's move opening up a pandora's box of schools holding camps throughout the south and west to the point where it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that there could be 30-40 "carpetbagger" camps. On balance, I tend to side with those who voted no, just because of the potential pandemonium that could ensue if allowed. P.S. I like Rick Leach, but I don't buy his fake altruistic argument.
8) We all must now be on the lookout for southern and western schools attempting to establish ice hockey camps in North Dakota and Michigan...
JoCo and Sid, the really fertile hockey soil is still a little further north. Addendum..like the pirate and your AD: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jon-solomon/25166729/notre-dame-ad-ncaa-satellite-camp-ban-would-face-legal-scrutiny
Bobda, Interesting. Swarbrick is an attorney who, before he became the AD, was accomplished in the field of sports-related law. The one thing I would say (as a non-lawyer, of course) is that the NCAA put it to a vote and supposedly made its decision based on the results of that vote. Now, if the "no" votes did not represent the majority, then it would appear that the NCAA is cowtowing to the "influential" minority and, it would seem, would have a problem. I'm guessing we haven't heard the end of this issue.
None. I doubt if Michigan's recruiting will suffer given its resources and Harbaugh's non stop energy. I think the most impacted would be the diamond in the rough player. MAC coaches frequently visited these camps--which were sponsored by many schools other than Michigan--and used them as an oportunity to find overlooked players who were buried playing for a poorly coached team or school/league not known for its football prowess.
Kelly was asked about coaches from other teams working the ND camps, specifically somebody asked about Miami of Ohio where one of Kelly's former coaches (Chuck Martin) is the head coach, working the camps. He said he wasn't sure right now. I hadn't thought about the angle of say MAC school coaches working Big 10 and ND camps to have an opportunity to see some players. Interesting angle. Sid's right, Swarbrick's view is probably pretty sound. But somebody will have to decide to make a case out of it.
When my oldest grandson graduated from 8th grade, I gave him ND basketball camp as a graduation gift. I was there the entire 3 days. There were several coaches of smaller programs helping out. There was one HS kid on Aaron's team who was a legit prospect at some level. He even scrimmaged with the ND varsity one night. He was approached by a couple of coaches who were assisting. I knew this because I was hanging out with his dad. I didn't follow him after the camp, so I don't know where he ended up going. My point is, based on that experience, I don't think it's unusual at all for other coaches to attend and help at higher level sports camps.
Some good comments by Urban Meyer on the new rules, esp the new rules (or elimination of rules) regarding texting. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/15182859/urban-meyer-ohio-state-buckeyes-coach-pans-text-message-deregulation-end-satellite-camps
It's a ridiculous ruling, and we know who profits from it. For a kid that can't normally afford to go see "a show" out of town, is now geographically restricted because "the show" can't come to him?
Well Stanford Coach David Shaw just pretty much offended and dissed the entire South East. http://www.ruleoftree.com/2016/4/10/11400862/stanford-cardinal-football-2016-spring-game-roundup-david-shaw-quarterback-competition-burns-chryst
It's funny but uncalled for. With that statement, Shaw joins the Stanford band in perpetuating Stanford's ugly reputation as elitist and disrespectful.
