Well the first big game of the year for the Longhorns is this weekend up on the high plains of Lubbutt!! I'm sure the stands will packed to the hilt and they will be thirsting for blood. Texas is only a 3 point favorite, and not really suprising. We haven't looked awesome in our 2 wins, they were wins of course and that is key. But our offense just hasn't looked to be too polished like it was with Colt. That's understandable, given that Garrett Gilbert is a first time starter and we have gone back to the offense we used with Chris Simms, so it's a big change for the OL in terms of blocking schemes/responsibilty. Also we are still searching for that RB to step up and become the next Ced Benson, Ricky Williams or even Jamall Charles. Fozzy Whitaker had a good game against Wyoming, but it was Wyoming, not to mention Fozzy's biggest problem has been staying healthy. Tech so far has looked like Tech...throw, throw, throw, throw, run up score etc. Here's a funny ditty that a Tech fan put up.
I wouldn't worry too much. This is the Tech-Tards without their pirate captain at the helm of the offense. They don't have the imagination like they did. They might be a smidgeon better on defense because of TT, but that isn't saying much. I think you'll own them. Quiz answer: Can't I have a major meteor impact right in the middle of that erector set stadium at kickoff????
It will be interesting to see how Tuberville does at TT. He seems to be loved by some and hated by others. I've always thought he was a decent coach.
I'll tape the Texas/Tech game while watching ND/MSU. But I have to comment on the OU/USAFA game. The Flyboys went into Norman and played the Sooners off their feet, lost a close one that they maybe could have won. But they out rushed them 350yds to 100 and change and outgained them overall. But the made a couple of mistakes that were the difference. Always makes me proud to see our young servicemen at that Academies step up and play well with the big boys. Bob Stoops, who I personally don't care for, was all class after the game and before the game in giving respect to the Cadets. OU is a good team, but I have a good feeling about the Texas/OU game in a few weeks....of course we can't overlook Tech!!
Texas wins again, but doesn't look esp good/great....sort of like the Gators...but they did win! Something to be said for being 3-0. But they did not look like a team that could handle Neb on Oct 16. Texas Defense did play extremely well tonight though, it's the offense that is good not great.
Terry, over the years I have seen many teams start fast then fade as the season wears on. Other teams win ugly early but put it together late. In fact I've known of more than one team that wins ugly all year then comes up big at the end. I think I agree with your thoughts as of today about Texas and Nebraska, and Florida and Alabama. However if we can keep winning until we get there then who knows. And I think in both cases it's possible to meet again in the Championship game.
Ugly may be the word to describe that one in two weeks. UF misfires on offense way too much. I think Bama will be favored by 18 points. OH well....with Ga losing if UF can manage to lose only to Bama maybe they can play their way into Atlanta by getting past SC. If so....anything could happen by then.
Bill, with the Texas defense playing well it might give the Texas offense time to develope later in the season. So far the new QB has been ok, some of his problems are the lack of running game and the occassional stone fingers on the WR's. We do have a reason for the slow start on offense, it's a new QB and somewhat of a new offense. Going to take some time to get the kinks out...at least that's what I hope. I'd say Texas and UF are somewhat in the same boat on the offense.
